Hot on the heels of their impressive Flash Flash Flash LP, the Explosion followed up with the Steal This EP, more the result of contractual obligations than a new record from the band. Coming out of an argument between bassist Damian Genaurdi and his former record label, the group was forced to record the condescendingly titled EP or face legal action. Regardless of what prompted the record, the five-track, nine-minute performance is still classic Explosion, and its only downside is the fact that it's almost over before it even begins. Included on the disc are some typically standout tracks, among them the trudging "Turnaround" and the group's cheer-inspired anthem, "E.X.P.L.O.S.I.O.N." Steal This is also a nice confirmation that the band's energy is still running strong, and while it is far from a complete record, there isn't a stale track in the bunch, making it a perfect follow-up to the inspiring record that came only months before it. ~ Peter J. D'Angelo

$13.45 In what could have been a means to deflect a slow release schedule, 4AD started rolling out compilations of some of their deep catalog bands in 2000 and 2001. The Cocteau Twins were first, followed by Heidi Berry and Modern English. In early 2001, 4AD released Ciao! 1989-1996, a collection of Lush's finest moments. Evenly taking four to five songs from each of the band's three proper studio records and their early EPs compilation (Gala), Ciao is a decent summary of the band's eight-year existence, collecting most of their singles, several album cuts, and one of their better B-sides (a cover of the Gist's ...

$14.25 Jamaica's independence in 1964 started in motion a complex series of interrelated cultural changes, one of which, the migration of thousands of Jamaicans from the country to the city of Kingston, led to massive joblessness in the city. Nothing is more desperate than an angry young man with no job, no money, no future (and thus no attainable dreams), and tons of time on his hands, and by ...

$13.15 Determined to form a band, Yvon returned to China at the end of 2004. Within a matter of months he was out playing with bass player Billy's band, kicking things off with a massive outdoor show in Chengdu. In 2007 the band decided it was time to record their debut album. With the help of keyboardist Mark MacLeod the main tracks were recorded within a few weeks, but it was a year before additional ...
