Kansas Is An Electric Mix Of Alternative Folk Rock
Personnel includes: Jennifer Knapp (vocals). In the late 1990s, Christian singer/songwriter Jennifer Knapp released her debut album, KANSAS, which created a small sensation amongst gospel and CCM fans. Knapp's earthy, just-folks alto and straightforward pop approach was just what young listeners wanted in their devotional music. The album went gold and also landed on many "best-of" lists for that year. This ten-year anniversary edition includes all the original hits--the beautiful waltz "Hold Me Now," the country-tinged "Martyrs and Thieves"--as well as remastered versions of "Whole Again" and "Undo Me," and eight delightful bonus tracks. The album went gold and also landed on many "best-of" lists for that year, based on the strength of the beautiful waltz "Hold Me Now," the country-tinged "Martyrs and Thieves," as well as the hit singles "Whole Again" and "Undo Me." Kansas, the first Gotee Records release from singer/songwriter Jennifer Knapp, is an album rarely paralleled in the gospel genre. The edgy yet vulnerable folk-rock and alternative CCM mix serve to create a guitar-driven, almost gritty sound, resulting in comparisons between Knapp and fellow Lillith Fair performers Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge. The project is framed by the a cappella melody "Faithful to Me," which both opens and closes the album. "Undo Me" and "Romans" are clothed in highly rhythmic, acoustic guitar rock, with "Romans" being the more upbeat, less intense of the two. The project's highlight is the song "Hold Me Now." The track, a lyrical parable of sorts, is as close as Knapp comes to a gentle, acoustic ballad. ~ Ashleigh Kittle
Jennifer Knapp Kansas Songs Kansas Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Amazing CD from an Amazing Musician Jennifer Knapp is one of my favourite artists (Christian or Non-Christian). She has a strong voice and a strong style of music, it's raw and pure. Everything she sings is straight from the heart, and it shows. Submitted by thelisrobot (Cumming, GA) Was This Review Helpful? Fantastic Stuff This is one of the best albums I've had for a long time. Full-on, rich music with lyrics which cut to the heart. I don't know why Jennifer Knapp isn't being played on commercial radio. It's certainly good enough and would get the listeners in even with the Christian lyrics. Buy it - you'll love it!!! $12.15 Ron Dometrovich is a singer/songwriter guitarist and multi-instrumentalist who has recorded six independently produced CDs which have received a great deal of airplay in the European, Australian and US Americana indie radio markets. His music has been featured on “Writer’s Block”, a weekly radio program dedicated to independent songwriters on WDVX in Knoxville, TN, where he recently gave a live interview/on-air performance. He is a repeat performer in the annual Frank Brown International Songwriter’s Festival on the Alabama Gulf Coast, where songwriter Austin Church (who has written songs recorded by Del Reeves and Lyle Lovett and has co-written with Jimmy Buffett) had this to say: "Very listen-able…he paints pictures with his music". Ron also performed in City Stages 2006 and 2007, a world-class music festival in Birmingham, AL, backed by his band Broken Hill. He was nominated for the Birmingham Area Music Awards (BAMA) Americana Artist of the year in 2008 and performed for the event at the historic Carver Theater, sharing the stage with such luminaries as (Rolling Stones keyboardist) Chuck Leavell and Peter Wolf. At home in intimate settings, his music is most popular with coffee house, wine bar, and house concert venues. The music draws on stylistic influences from folk, bluegrass, country and rock, all thrown into a kitchen appliance. Having done a fair amount of orchestra pit work for various musical theater productions, his work has been influenced by that genre as well, often featuring characters, part fictional and part factual, and their stories, glued together with savvy acoustic fingerstyle guitar driven arrangements. Ron has performed in or directed orchestras such theatrical productions as HAIR, Best Little ...
