| Reunion Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Great Music! Latin Breed was one of the tightest groups around and this CD proves that. They have always had excellent musicians who play with feeling. It would be difficult to pick the best tune, but one of my favorites has been
"Que Chlos Ojos". Great music by great musicians.

Wonderful Memories Words cannot describe the memories that come to mind listening to the music of Jimmy Edwards and the Latin Breed. You see, we were just boyfriend and girlfriend, 14 and 17 yrs. old. Jesse had a car and a job and an 8-track tape player. Needless to say, the Latin Breed was "Our Favorite". Jesse was killed in 1986 at the age of 29. I was a 25 yr. old widow with 3 small children ages, 2, 5, and 8. It's been a long time since Jesse's death and my children are 20, 23, and 26 yrs. old and I have a 2yr. old grandson. However, hearing the musis of Jimmy Edwards and the Latin Breed brings tears to my eyes and joy to my heart. Life has gone on and I can testify that the Latin Breed's Reunion music fills me with undescribable joy. They are wonderful and will never know how much of an impact they had on my life. Thank you! | | Reggie Concept Nicholson Unnecessary Noise Allowed CD (2009)
Reunion
$16.45 Featuring Gene Ghee on sax & flute, Mark McGowan on trumpet, Bruce Edwards on guitar, Brad Jones on bass and Reggie Nicholson on drums and all compositions. Although this especially diverse work has been out since 1997, this is the first time that DMG has had copies to sell. Reggie is one of downtown's best drummers and has been a part of the AACM for quite a while, playing with Muhal Richard Abrams, as well as bands with pianist Yuko Fujiyama. I am unfamiliar with both horn players here, but I do know guitarist Bruce Edwards from his work with Sun Ra and other Philly folks. Bassist Brad Jones is another of downtown's best who is on dozens of recordings and live dates, from the Jazz Passengers to Misha Mengelberg & Dave Douglas. Each of the ten pieces here deals with different grooves and styles, evoking a variety of moods. From the slow, pensive and mysterious opener to the somewhat funky Afrobeat meets Blue Note groove of "Bootblack". Gene Ghee's dark and haunting tenor tone and Bruce's sinuous and sly electric guitar blend perfectly on this one. Brad's (electric?) bass and Bruce's guitar swirl freely together on "Power Stronger than Itself", with superb solos from both horns & guitar and a hypnotic theme which moves in waves. "After Five" features some lovely flute, trumpet & guitar playing and harmonies, while the title track is an amazing avant/funk groove tune with some fine wah-wah jazz guitar from Bruce and strong Trane-toned tenor sax from Mr. Ghee. Reggie's writing quite strong throughout, especially on "Belief Beyond", which moves between slower and more ominous sections with some superb percussion (gongs & cymbals) at the center, with some ...
