| | Jon Secada Greatest Hits CD Jon Secada Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Jon Secada really had only one blockbuster album, but he nevertheless was one of the finest adult contemporary singers of the '90s, as Greatest Hits proves. Released at the tail-end of his Virgin contract, just before he began recording for Sony Music, Greatest Hits covers his first four albums, including not only all of his hits -- "Just Another Day," "Do You Believe in Us," "Angel," "I'm Free," "If You Go," "Whipped," "Mental Picture" -- but selected highlights from the records themselves. As such, it's a definitive portrait. Secada always sounded good on record, but his material was occasionally uneven. Here, every song connects, making it not only a fine greatest hits collection, but arguably his best record to date. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Includes liner notes by Simon Glickman.
Compilation producer: Kevin Flaherty.
Personnel includes: Jon Secada, Shanice (vocals).
Producers: Tammy Kizer, Lisa Reddick.

Greatest Hits album
$9.19 Although he began his career singing backup for musicians such as Lionel Richie and Madonna, Richard Marx made his mark on the pop music scene in 1987 with his hit single, "Don't Mean Nothing." Over the next ten years, Marx racked up thirteen top five singles and four multi-platinum ...
| | Christopher Cross Very Best Of CD (2002)
Greatest Hits CD music
$8.15 Digitally remastered by Dan Hersch and Bill Inglot (Digiprep).
Christopher Cross had a long career, but he peaked early. His eponymous first album produced four Top 20 hits, highlighted by "Sailing," and won five Grammys -- a record at the time. His streak continued with "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)," a collaboration with Burt Bacharach, Peter Allen, and Carole Bayer Sager that served as the theme for Dudley Moore's smash Arthur. Cross delivered a second album, Another Page, that sounded similar to the first and sold respectably well until it generated a genuine hit with "Think of Laura," thanks to General Hospital adopting it as a love theme for their Luke and Laura plot line. After that, Cross slipped away, although he released another five albums between that record and 2002's compilation, The Very Best of Christopher Cross. The problem with this compilation is that it doesn't take into consideration that early peak -- it treats each album with equal respect, with as many songs taken from 1998's Walking in Avalon and Red Room as from 1983's Another Page. While this may satisfy the artist and the die-hards who have listened with dedication over the years, those who loved the warm ...
| | Carter Family 1927-1934 CDs (2002) (Import) United Kingdom
Greatest Hits music CDs
$30.55 A comprehensive budget compilation by the dependable JSP label, the five-disc 1927-1934 fully covers the first seven years of the Carter Family's musical career and features recordings that are the basis of the trio's honored place in the country music firmament. The set starts, appropriately enough, with the Carters' six contributions to Ralph Peer's legendary 1927 recording sessions in Bristol, Tennessee, and then chronologically wades through every released side that A.P., Sara, and Maybelle recorded for RCA Victor. (This excludes alternate takes that are readily available on Rounder and Bear Family reissues covering the same era.)
Unlike similar collections, where much of the listening intrigue comes from charting ...

| | Lionel Richie Definitive Collection CD (2003) Remastered
Greatest Hits album
$10.55 The first pressings of THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION included a bonus disc featuring rare tracks.
THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION, though not as thorough as the excellent two-disc set GOLD (released a year prior), is a handy overview of the Commodores' career, beginning with 1974's "Machine Gun" and concluding with 1985's "Nightshift." The only Top Ten R&B hits not included here are "Sail On," and a couple of later '80s cuts, so all the big funk jams ("Too Hot ta Trot," "Brick House," "Lady [You Bring Me Up],") and ballads ("Zoom," "Easy," "Three Times a Lady") are indeed included. This set also scores a little extra by including one of the band's best album cuts, 1976's "Girl, I Think the World About You," which has been left off at least 90-percent of all Commodores comps.
Although Lionel Richie was AWOL for most of the '90s, he's still a pop culture force to be reckoned with, and THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION ably supports this assertion. Between his work as a frontman for The Commodores, songwriter for other artists, and as a solo act, Richie became the only songwriter to score nine chart-toppers in nine consecutive years. Aside from Kenny Rogers' "Lady" and USA For Africa's "We Are The World," (co-written with Michael Jackson), all the other #1's are here: "Endless Love" (with Diana Ross), "Truly," "Hello," "All Night Long (All Night)," "Say You, Say Me," "Still" and "Three ...

| | Cosmic Rough Riders Pure Escapism CD (2002) Bonus Tracks; Japan
Greatest Hits songs
$38.39 Japanese exclusive compilation for the critically acclaimed Scottish folk-rock act featuring 13 audio tracks & 4 videos, 'Melanie', 'Baby You're So Fine', 'Revolution (In The Summertime)' & 'The Pain Inside' (remix). 2001 release housed in a gatefold digipak.
Still reveling in this Scottish group's improbably innocent, mellifluous, untouched 'n' unspoiled debut LP, Enjoy the Melodic Sunshine? Want more of the exact same? Pure Escapism is a handy compendium of their 11 very similar B-sides and two alternative versions, making for something of a side three and four of the proper LP! OK, the last two-thirds of this is like a slightly lighter version of CRR, as on track after track they reach for the picking of acoustic guitars as an even more ringing-pop idea of their melodious tunes. But the style is otherwise unchanged on winsome little numbers such as "Camera Shy," the lovely "Universal Thing," and "Your Eyes." And in the early going, when they actually stick to the LP's ringing electrics, the results are once again marvelous: The surprisingly harsher, just as catchy, Teenage Fanclub-ish "I Got Over You" is a bigtime winner that ...

| | Five In Crisis Etched In Stone CD (2007)
Greatest Hits CD music
$16.45 Five In Crisis was born in Los Angeles to five musicians who transplanted from elsewhere in the country, and chose to make LA their home. Each of the musicians brought with them the basic DNA of various musical styles, formal training, and experience to make Five In Crisis a strong classic rock style band. No gimmicks or extreme melodic games, just straight forward easy to listen to lyrics, with a groove that cuts through to the core of anyone who’s experienced everything that life has to offer. Fredric and Ralph Johnson’s melody’s and lyrics waste no time in getting to the point of it all.Ralph’s guitar leads are clean and magically catchy; you’re guaranteed to hear them playing in your head long after the music has played. Fredric’s soft vocal style is unpretentious, yet familiar. He will immediately warm your heart.
