An exuberant album of euphoric tales and exhortations. Wildest Dreams reflects Tina Turner's happiness with life after Ike Turner and with finally reaching megastardom in her fifties. On her first studio album in seven years, Tina Turner flashes the same indomitable spirit, moxie and raw sexuality that have carried her through nearly four decades in the music business, which is to say, she sounds as young as ever. Turner has a penchant for taking good songs and transforming them into her own; here she tackles John Waite ("Missing You"), Massive Attack ("Unfinished Sympathy"), Sheryl Crow ("All Kinds Of People," a song from Crow's abandoned 1992 album) and the Pet Shop Boys ("Confidential").
Trevor Horn gives her a sweeping, modern production, surrounding the Acid Queen with atmospheric beats, subtle electro-funk and cascading orchestration. She emotes all over it. The unexpected arrival of former Coroner six-string genius Tommy Vetterli into the Kreator fold, there to spar with founding mastermind and resident blazing thrash guitar specialist Mille Petrozza, seemed like one of the oddest stylistic pairings in metal history. Needless to say, observers expected one of two options: absolute fireworks, or a complete and utter failure to communicate. NICOLAS HERNANDEZWorld-Influenced Flamenco Guitarist “Finds His Voice” on Debut CD“I don't know if it's because my parents are Spanish but I really feel connected to this type of music. When I went to Spain in 1995 for my first flamenco guitar workshop, I felt like I was actually coming home...”As a young Canadian teenager, Nicolás’ musical influences leaned heavily toward the classic rock style of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. When he was 17 years old, his Spanish-born parents moved the family from British Columbia, Canada back to Spain for a year. As fate would have it, a flamenco guitarist playing for spare change in the streets of Santa Cruz, Tenerife in the Canary Islands caught his attention. The rich sound of what seemed like three guitars emanated from the solo instrument and at once Nicolás knew that this was what the guitar was invented for. Captivated by the exquisite chords, syncopated rhythms and intensity of emotion the guitar conveyed, Nicolás resolved to dedicate himself solely to the art of flamenco. After returning to Canada he attended the University of British Columbia, and by 1988 had earned his B.Sc. degree in Honors Chemistry. Nicolás moved to Toronto to begin his formal flamenco guitar studies at the David Phillips Flamenco Guitar School. Working during the day as a chemist, his nights were focused on performing both solo guitar and dance accompaniment under the guidance of the late David Phillips who arranged the music of Granada and Malaguena for The First Lady of the Guitar, Liona Boyd. Nicolás also studied with some of Spain’s master flamenco guitarists, perfecting the art of playing concert level solo guitar pieces and accompanying singers and dancers. By 1996 Nicolás had become the Music Director for the Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company. Today, not only is he an integral musician in their performances, he composes original works for the group, all the while continuing to blend flamenco with other ethnic music styles he discovers in multicultural Toronto. For example, his versatile guitar work added a flamenco flavor to the Toronto Tabla Ensemble on the Juno-nominated CD entitled Firedance, which was released in 1999. A much sought-after flamenco guitarist, Nicolás is often invited to perform live in concert and to teach master workshops throughout Canada and the United States. Louis Franklin has probably won more Fiddling contests than any other Texas Fiddler including the World Championship in Crockett, Texas a record seven times. He has influenced virtually every fiddler who has ever attempted to play the Texas Contest Fiddle style and is revered by everyone who has ever seen or heard him play. There is now a FiddleFest in his hometown of Whitewright, Texas named in his honor as the Louis Franklin Championship and held every Memorial Day Weekend and is attended by the best Fiddlers and Accompanist's playing today. Larry Franklin is descended from a family of legendary Texas fiddlers. His great uncle, Major Franklin, and his father, Louis Franklin, were seldom recorded but vastly influential fiddlers in the Texas fiddle style that has become the national "contest" style heard everywhere today. Larry was winning most of the major fiddle contests while still in his teens, and has gradually evolved into the all-around musician and top call Nashville session pro that he is today. 2002 Texas Fiddlers Hall of Fame inductee Voted "Fiddle Player Of The Year" for 1997and 2002 (Academy Of Country Music) 3-Time Grammy Winner In Music Row Magazine's Annual Session All-Star Poll, he has finished in the Top 2 or 3 every year since 1997. As a member (1984-1991) of the Hot Western Swing Group Asleep at the Wheel, Larry received two Grammies for Instrumental of the Year. The first in 1987 for String of Pars, a song he co-wrote, and again in 1988 for Sugarfoot Rag. They won again in 1999 with Bob's Breakdowns on the Ride With Bob tribute album to Bob Wills featuring Larry, Vince Gill and Steve Wariner, bringing his Grammy total to three!
