Erasure's first full album for three years, 1994's I SAY I SAY I SAY is a mature, often melancholy effort. It builds on previous gems like CHORUS and WILD! by amplifying those albums' ruminative lyrics and melodic richness while downplaying the Hi-NRG dance pop of the duo's earliest records.
Andy Bell's lyrics are personal and thoughtful, with bittersweet nostalgia coloring many of the songs. In this context, even the cheerful "I Love Saturday" seems a little melancholy. Surprisingly, "Always," a poignant lost-love tale with an odd, almost discordant melody, was an American hit single. "Because You're So Sweet," is one of the duo's most beautiful songs, and the church choir on "So the Story Goes," and "Miracle," sounds perfectly integrated with Bell and Vince Clarke's quietly soulful tunes.
Recorded at Studio 142, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Windmill Lane, Dublin, Ireland; The Church, London, England; 37B, The United Kingdom.
Engineers: Andy Houston, Al Stone, Phil Legg.
Erasure: Andy Bell (vocals); Vince Clarke (various instruments).
Additional personnel: The Choir Of St. Patrick's Cathedral (background vocals).
Rolling Stone (12/15/94, p.96) - 3.5 Stars - Good - "...Erasure continue their adventurous pursuit of unbashed romantic expression..." Melody Maker (5/14/94, p.30) - "...Erasure's ecstatic excesses are frequently as horny as hell. It's this flesh and blood approach that's always given them the edge. You couldn't ever accuse Erasure of faking it, they're an irony-free zone and thank God..." Erasure I Say I Say I Say Songs I Say I Say I Say Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Best cd of their career! This cd is jam packed with great pop beats and catchy melodies. Andy's voice sounds crystal clear, and Vince's craftwork is top notch! Don't just sample it, GET IT!!! Submitted by capricorn151980 (Indiana) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

A new direction. A new sound. Just like the rest of rabid erasure fans out there, I got the UK advance 2CD set of "Always" about a month before the release of this album in the US. With quite an anticipation bubbling for this album, it was a surprise that I was a tad disappointed with I Say, I Say, I Say. Though gems like "I Love Saturday" and "Because you're so sweet" will remain two of the band's most beloved tunes (especially the 'Mark Goodier Radio Session mix" of 'because you're so sweet'), the rest of the lp remains kind of an enigma to me in a way. Maybe they were trying to say something that I couldn't hear nor understand. But for you erasure collectors out there, look for the ultra-rare UK "I Love Saturday" EP which has 3 new songs including "Ghost" which is single-handedly erasure's most glorious (not to mention spooky) b-side to date. It was supposed to have been a single off the ep but didn't make it. All in all it's a great record, don't get me wrong....it yielded the band's first (and to this date, only) American Top-5 hit. I Say I Say I Say album
$5.95 Having continued course on I Say I Say I Say without adding much to its overall reputation, Erasure took a surprising turn on its self-titled album. With statements at the time indicating Clarke claimed inspiration from the complexity and reach of prog-rock keyboard experiments, the duo entered a less pop-friendly turn for this extensive record. Clarke definitely aims for a more spacy atmosphere throughout Erasure, assisted by sometime Orb compatriot Thomas Fehlmann. While the catchy hooks with which Clarke made his name remain, the arrangements show more grandiose reflections ...

$9.25 One of the bands that not only dominated the charts for most of the 80s, but they also typified the type of music that will be looked back on as 'the sound of the 80s'. Their sometimes Germanic electronic pop became softer on this album. They were becoming more of a band, and they were 'rockin', just a little. Keyboards still dominated but the melody seemed less regimented. Vocalist Dave Gahan excelled, as his voice grew in power. In a year or two they would become stadium rock stars, and change forever. The reissued CD had a number of excellent bonus tracks including some interesting remixed material.
Initially the title must have sounded like an incredibly pretentious boast, except that Depeche Mode then went on to do a monstrous world tour, score even ...

$17.69 Well, the mystery of "Deep Throat" has been resolved. The questions that appear in the glass, through the shock and awe of smoke and mirrors, simply: where are they now? The Peacemakers Band latest cd asks this question in a brave understandably, jaded voice. Tim Otto the lead singer / songwriter of the band takes us through a 47 minute tour of fallen heroes and principles, casting an eye on current affairs as seen through the lens of the past.In turn equally iconographer and iconoclast, "Goodbye Free Love" gives voice to a generation born into the turbulent sixties, coming of age in the morally dissipating seventies, finally crashing and burning head on into 1980, and the great wall of Reagan! ("Welcome To The Future").Though initially released in 2003, "Goodbye Free Love" is a piece of work that becomes more relevant each moment, every minute as our deeply divided country is plunged further into the depths of desperation and depravity of a rogue administration run amok. The production values on "Goodbye Free Love" are lush and exquisite, with Byrds like ringing guitars on "Sad Eyed Beautiful Girl", folksy mandolins and piano stool percussions on "Let The Wild Horse Run", the very jaded doo-wop song "That Girl You'll Never Love", the sparse and uncluttered "The Van Gogh Blues", and the closing two anthems "Welcome To The Future" and "Goodbye Free Love."Otto and his coconspirators, bassist Chris ...
