(2 Customer Reviews)
Just as passionate as its predecessor, Music to Disappear in II expands Raphael's vision with increased musical refinement and production skills. Gypsy violin, subtle but compelling percussion, atmospheric synths and female vocals surround Raphael's sweeping grand piano with deep emotion. "River Seeks the Deep," "Surrender" and "Healing Dance" meld the gentle, passionate and exotic into a sensuous blend, while the last three tracks -- "Laxshimi," "Tantra" and "Heaven" -- use congas, bells, violin solos and vocals by guest artist Sophia to reach an ecstatic climax. The transcultural trance-dances of Music to Disappear in II exemplify Raphael's creative spirit. ~ Heather Phares

Music To Disappear In, Vol. 2 songs
$26.95 THEREMIN contains 3 original 10-inch LPs on 3 CDs: MUSIC OUT OF THE MOON (1947)/PERFUME SET TO MUSIC (1948)/MUSIC FOR PEACE FOR MIND (1950).
In the late '40s and early '50s, a series of easy listening albums appeared featuring the then-futuristic eerie theremin of Dr. Samuel J. Hoffman. Waves in the Ether: The Magical World of the Theremin collects three of them -- 1947's Music out of the Moon, 1948's Perfume Set to Music, and 1950's Music for Peace of Mind -- onto one CD, with historical liner notes. (Yes, this 18-track, 53-minute CD does include all three of the albums, as albums had shorter playing times back then.) In truth, it's rather arbitrary who is considered the "artist" of these albums; Hoffman did contribute theremin, but the music was composed by Harry Revel, and conducted and arranged by Les Baxter (on the first two albums) and Billy May (on Music for Peace of Mind). Also in truth, these records really aren't as exotic as they might appear. For the most part they're corny lounge jazz-cum-soundtrack music, with gossamer violins, dramatic piano flourishes, and wholesome white bread vocal choirs and jazz scatting. Often you expect a voice to come over the music at any second exclaiming, "And now, live from New York City, the [fill in the host name] Show!," or the music to fade in favor of dialogue as the opening scene of some 1949 film melodrama starts. As for Hoffman's contributions, they're less dominant than you might ...

Music To Disappear In, Vol. 2 CD music
$12.85 Vinyl LP version also available directly from the label at www.whatmusic.comJacques Pelzer was at the forefront of belgian jazz for some fifty years. But his playing embraced all post war jazz styles without losing creative direction. From his work with the Bob Shots (Rene Thomas, Bobby Jaspar, Fats Sadi a.o.) through post-bop, free and fusion jazz, with myriad adventures along the way (three tours with Chet Baker for example), Pelzer left the belgian and global jazz fraternity with some jazz to treasure.whatmusic.com previously documented (father and daughter) Jacques and Micheline Pelzer's funky incarnation as leaders of the group Open Sky Unit (OSU) (WMCD/LP-0002), another live recording cut less than a year previously. Evidently some funky skin had been shed in the ensuing months and the personnel changes reflected this - Ron Wilson's fender rhodes and vocals were replaced by the acoustic piano of Michel Graillier, Micheline Pelzer's long-term musical and life partner. On the bass front , acoustic modality also replaced electrical, with Alby Cullaz coming in for Janot Buchem. Reedman Steve Houben, a necessary amplicatory addition for Jacques Pelzer in the electric funk context of OSU, was dispensed with. Thus the quartet crystallised around Jacques' saxophones ...
