| | John Boswell Painter CD John Boswell Discography of CDs
Originally recorded in 1988 on the small Scarlet record label, The Painter debuted John Boswell's softly romantic solo piano stylings to a small but dedicated following of fans. Tracks like "Child's Eyes" and "James and the Giant Peach" introduce the grace and sincerity that would become the hallmark of his later recordings. Remastered and repackaged in 1994 by new age label Hearts of Space, The Painter enhances the portrait of John Boswell as an evocative pianist. ~ Heather Phares

Painter
$14.65 Boswell's first release for Hearts of Space expands his musical and stylistic palette. Along with the expressive piano and saxophone work that mark his first releases, Count Me In adds touches of folk and jazz elements for an increasingly diverse style. "Do It as a Friend" melds fretless bass and piano with Irish whistle and soprano sax for a Celtic-jazz hybrid, while "Skye Boat Song" explores the Celtic tradition further by adding silky piano and cello to a melody based on an old Scottish folk song. Premiere Celtic artist Joannie Madden plays tin whistle and low whistle on this piece. However, Boswell's piano is the focus on songs like "Aletha" and "Underwater Scene." Synth, guitar and saxophone accents round out this unique collection. ~ Heather Phares
Recorded at Baby Monster Studios, New York and Pulse Wave Underground, Trumbull, Connecticut.

| | Enigma Screen Behind The Mirror CD (2000)
Painter
$11.55 There is a certain other-worldliness to the musical landscapes created by the artist also known as Michael Cretu. With Enigma, he is known for pioneering the synergy of traditional and world music with dance and electronica. Cretu's craftwork could be described as having taken ground broken by Tangerine Dream and adding mystic spirituality.
"The Gate" opens dramatically with a classical-sounding chorus, then sliding into a combination of spoken and hauntingly sung vocals. Disguised as a modern pop song, "Push the Limits" does just that with powerful orchestration. ...
| | Amethystium Odonata CD (2001)
Painter
$12.75 This is the debut album from Amethystium which received a groundswell of support from online listeners, to the tune of a half million downloads before its official release. The album is attributed to Oystein Ramfjord, a composer from Norway who makes ambient electronic music full of mystifying sounds. The opening song, "Opaque," begins with an incredible underwater sonar pulse that makes way for passages of Indian vocals that are very reminiscent of Deep Forest. In fact, most songs employ well-crafted samples of ...

| | State Of Grace CD (2000)
Painter
$7.59 Composer/producer and vocal-orchestral-ambient-groove project mastermind Paul Schwartz's great gift is his ability to combine the ancient and sacred with sounds that are hip, soulful and original. He struck creative gold mining the riches of opera on his two "Aria" projects, and here he digs into beautiful, old, religious texts and poetry (mostly Latin) to create an ethereal and spiritual new age experience. The multi-movements of the opening track, "Veni Redemptor Genium," set the tone, as atmospheric hypnosis blends with a seductive electronic rhythm pattern, the dreamy lead voice of guest singer (and frequent Schwartz collaborator) Lisbeth Scott, and soaring strings. Other emotional tracks like "Miserere" blend some of those same elements with the angelic vibes of a choir. Schwartz also plays piano on two cuts and invokes the spirit of Ireland on the groove-jig vibe of "Simple Gifts," which features Irish whistles and bagpipes. Amidst the seductive originals is a moody twist on "Amazing Grace" that universalizes the legendary ...
