The fourth of four CD reissues taken from Art Pepper's three nights at the Village Vanguard in July 1977, as with the other releases, adds one selection ("Scrapple from the Apple") to the music of the original LP; all of the performances on this and the other sets have since been made available as part of a massive nine-CD box set. The great altoist was clearly excited to be playing at the famous New York club, and his rhythm section -- pianist George Cables, bassist George Mraz and drummer Elvin Jones -- consistently stimulates his imagination. This release has more variety than usual, for in addition to his alto playing (including a memorable unaccompanied solo on "Over the Rainbow"), Pepper switches to clarinet for the lengthy "More for Les" and interprets the ballad "These Foolish Things" on tenor. The nine-CD set is essential for Art Pepper fanatics, but those just wanting a taste of the great altoist's talents will be satisfied with this release. ~ Scott Yanow

classic jazz Great 50s-60s nightclub jazz. That and the great memories of watching the Peanuts specials growing up, make's this a great kick back and enjoy CD. Submitted by a reviewer (Seattle, WA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
This is the real deal. I've had this cd for years. It's still some of the best jazz I've ever heard. The real treat, however, is the memories it brings every time I listen to this beautiful music. Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without this music. GET THIS VERSION...NOT THE "NEWLY REMASTERED" VERSION. The new version is terrible and doesn't even have the original music. THIS is the version to have. This music will still sound good in another 40 years! I miss Vince and Charles. Submitted by lwwarren1 (Atlanta, GA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Charlie Brown Christmas CD music
$14.29 On his third solo album for Redrum Records (and fourth overall if you count the first Die Hard Organization album), talented Memphis, TN, Dirty South auteur Gangsta Pat again proves his talents by doing virtually everything: rapping, producing, keyboards, guitar, bass, mixing, and anything else he can imagine to credit himself for in the liner notes. His ability to handle this broad scope of duties effectively proves to be even more impressive, although it's debatable whether he's a better ...

Charlie Brown Christmas album
$11.65 The so-called tragic decline of Peter Cook as a commercial power in the world of comedy has been documented so often that it is now accepted as gospel. The fact that people stopped hearing him, however, does not mean they stopped laughing at him -- they just didn't do it on such large stages anymore. Towards the end of his life, Cook threw himself into any number of situations that, had they only been aimed at a national audience, could have sent his stock soaring as high as it ever flew. Instead, he saved his best material for late-night phone-ins to ...
