Greatest Hits songs
$9.79 This New York City group attained a strong following in the '70s and were one of the best falsetto-led groups proficient in ballads. This 1993 set compiles tracks from their first two albums, both released in 1972. Unlike the Phil Perry-led Montclairs, who often seemed on the verge of nervous collapse, Black Ivory were a little more poised and polished. Despite the level of skill of Leroy Burgess' falsetto, and the close harmonies of Stuart Bascombe and Russell Patterson, the group was patently hit or miss. "Don't Turn Around" and "Time Is Love" both exemplify the sweetness and haunting sound of the group. The phenomenal self-pity classic "I'll Find a Way" has the great and funny lyric "I'm the loneliest man in town." Not surprisingly, this has its fair share of duds. Tracks "Wishful Thinking," "Loveland," and "I Keep Asking You Questions" are well sung but faceless. The odd "Our Future" doesn't even feature singing, but "supercool" conversation that was an unfortunate given for most R&B groups in the early '70s. For fans, all of these songs and more are known, but this set also includes something different. ...
| | Mercyful Fate Time CD (1994) Reissue
Greatest Hits album
$9.69 Like its predecessor (the comeback disc In the Shadows), Time has a mostly original Mercyful Fate lineup delivering strong material that might not exactly stand up to the group's best early-'80s work, but still packs a nasty horror-metal punch. As always, the distinctive frontman King Diamond leads the way on Time with his epic (if a little silly) lyrics and bizarre vocal range that defined the group's sound. Often overshadowed ...

| | Days Of The New CD (1997)
Greatest Hits music CDs
$12.15 (MP3 Available for Download) Days Of The New frontman Travis Meeks is probably pretty sick of being told how much older he sounds on tape. Judging from the band's self-titled debut, the deep-voiced 18 year-old has apparently been brooding for a lot longer than he's been shaving. He could send Scott Weiland ...
| | Donald Byrd Black Byrd CD (1973)
Greatest Hits songs
$8.25 Purists howled with indignation when Donald Byrd released Black Byrd, a full-fledged foray into R&B that erupted into a popular phenomenon. Byrd was branded a sellout and a traitor to his hard bop credentials, especially after Black Byrd became the biggest-selling album in Blue Note history. What the elitists missed, though, was that Black Byrd was the moment when Byrd's brand of fusion finally stepped out from under the shadow of his chief influence, Miles Davis, and found a distinctive voice of its own. Never before had ...

| | Best Of George Thorogood: 30 Years Of Rock CD (2004)
Greatest Hits MP3 Album
$10.25 If George Thorogood did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him. With his Delaware Destroyers by his side, Thorogood spent the 1970s, '80s, and '90s cutting through all pretense and pomposity with a raw, rootsy, bare-bones style steeped in traditional blues, R&B, and early rock & roll. His gravelly vocals, power-tool slide guitar, and no-frills bar-band aesthetic have endeared him to fans of honest, ...
