Creedence Clearwater Revival brightened the AM radio airwaves in the late 1960s and early '70s, and continues to do so still. Emerging in an era where "rock music" was beginning to be taken "seriously" as an artform, CCR got back to the roots and rocked. In an era marked by the beginnings of rock's pretensions (i.e., concept albums, long guitar and drum solos, etc.), this Bay Area band kept the instrumentation minimal (mostly just 2 guitars, bass and drums) and their sound was infused with 1960s soul/rhythm & blues, rockabilly and a touch of country. Lead singer/guitarist John Fogerty's raspy voice had more in common with soul shouters like Sam & Dave than most of the era's hippie-rockers.
Creedence sang about hard times and disaffection in a fun, playfully defiant way. CCR did rip-roaring good-time rock and roll that was thoughtful as well as funky. HOT STUFF is a nice intro to the group, with the dark, sinister rocker "Born On The Bayou," the contemplative "Wrote A Song For Everyone," and the joyous "Hey Tonight" the standout songs. After this appetizer, check out WILLIE & THE POOR BOYS and/or COSMO'S FACTORY for some of the best rock songs ever.

Hot Stuff CD music
$7.49 The 1996 reissue of CARIBOU includes four extra tracks. "Sick City" and "Cold Highway" were the B-sides of "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" and "The Bitch Is Back." John's cover of the Who's "Pinball Wizard" was recorded for the movie "Tommy." "Step Into Christmas" was a British single. The album has been digitally remastered by the original producer, Gus Dudgeon, using original master tapes and digital processing equipment at 20-bit resolution. According to Dudgeon (ICE newsletter, January 1996), the results are "100% better" than the two previous American CD issues.
Principally recorded at Caribou Ranch, Colorado. Originally released on MCA. Includes liner notes by John Tobler and Gus Dudgeon.
This is part of Rocket's Elton John: The Classic Years series.
To follow up an album that pretty much couldn't be followed--the flashy and brilliant GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD--Elton John hid away in the Caribou Ranch studio outside Denver, Colorado and recorded a certified pop mish-mash. CARIBOU contains bits of arena-rock corn ("Stinker") alongside period-pop pieces that could have passed for showtunes ("Dixie Lily"), complete goofs ("Solar Prestige A Gammon") and the ...

Both her parents were gospel singers who met while singing on the same church program. She is the seventh of eight children. Some of Eve’s earliest memories in music are singing special parts with “The Big Kids” singing behind her as they ministered at area churches with her mother playing the piano. At age 8 her mother, Christina, lost her long battle with cancer and the following year her eldest sister died. Eve credits her survival to the fact that even at this tender age, she knew how to pray.Music was Eve’s way of escape and, as a child, spent hours mimicking the singers she saw on TV. After graduation, Eve moved from her rural hometown in Western Kentucky to Louisville, Kentucky where, one day on a whim, she decided to submit a few of her original songs to various artists around the country. Clarence Carter of “Patches” fame was one of the first to reply. A week later, she flew to Atlanta to meet Carter and the staff at his record label, “Future Stars.” Three weeks after that fateful meeting, Eve quit her job and with $75.00 and a dream, relocated to Atlanta, Georgia.Eve has worked with the late Isaac Hayes and The Black Songwriter’s Association; the film “Soul Music in Georgia”, performed at New York's famed “Apollo Theater,” cable television’s “State of the Arts” and two specials for ABC. She is one of the vocalists on PBS’ “Prime Time” theme song and worked with Reginald Rutherford’s “Eddie Robinson Awards”. She was ...
