(1 Customer Review)
Digitally remastered by Phil De Lancie (1986, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
This CD reissues the majority of the songs that were originally on two LPs by the Banjo Kings. The Banjo Kings, which consisted of three banjos and a rhythm section, are definitely an acquired taste and their music (which includes such songs as "The Man on the Flying Trapeze," "In My Merry Oldsmobile," "A Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight" and "Home on the Range") sometimes gets rather corny, so this CD is only recommended to listeners who like singalongs and pizza parlor-type music. ~ Scott Yanow
Recorded at Good Time Jazz, Los Angeles, California from 1958-1962. Originally released as 2 LPs: THE BANJO KINGS ENJOY THE GOOD OLD DAYS (10047) and THE BANJO KINGS GO WEST (12036). Includes original liner notes by Lester Koenig.
The Banjo Kings: Dick Roberts, Red Roundtree, Joe Heimlich, Ernie Anderson and Vito Mumolo.
Additional personnel: Stan Wrightsman (piano); Ray Leatherwood, Morty Corb (bass); Mervin Strober, Nick Fatool (drums).

"You Can't Lose What You Ain't Never Had" and "The Same Thing" did not appear on the original version of FOLK SINGER. They were recorded at a separate session in April 1964, three months after FOLK SINGER was released.
The title and cover photo of this 1963 recording were an attempt to cash in on the burgeoning American folk revival, but this is pure acoustic blues. Muddy began his career as a Robert Johnson-style solo acoustic performer, and the tunes on FOLK SINGER hark back ...
