The Firehouse Five Plus Two's humor sometimes came dangerously close to corn although their musicianship was usually quite strong, with soprano saxophonist George Probert being a first-class soloist. Comprised mostly of members of the creative staff of Walt Disney, these part-time musicians always seemed to enjoy themselves and had a wide audience during the 1950s. This CD reissue is straightforward Dixieland, featuring a crisp lead by cornetist Danny Alguire and even two siren breaks from trombonist/leader Ward Kimball. Fun music. ~ Scott Yanow
Recorded January 23, 1954; March 30, 1954; and October 11, 1956. Includes original release liner notes by Walt Kelly.
Firehouse Five Plus Two: Danny Alguire (cornet), Ward Kimball (trombone, siren), Ed Penner (tuba), George Probert (clarinet, soprano saxophone, ocarina), Frank Thomas (piano), Harper Goff, Dick Roberts (banjo), Jim MacDonald and Monte Mountjoy (drums).

| | D L G Gotcha CD (1999)
Goes South! songs
$6.49 GOTCHA was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Salsa Performance.
GOTHCHA won the 2000 Billboard Latin Music Award for Album Of The Year by a group.
One of the cornerstones of producer Sergio George's efforts to redesign salsa in the '90s, DLG (Dark Latin Groove) is a trio of talented soloists and harmonizers backed by some of the best salsa session men in New York. On GOTCHA, the group's second and last album, DLG reprises the trademark salsa plus dancehall rap plus R&B vocals that it employed on its debut album, but with an ambitious twist. By weighing in on Latin music's cutting-edge club trends, DLG has produced an eclectic success.
Vocalists Huey Dunbar, James (da Barber) de Jesus, and Wilfredo (Fragrancia) Crispin put their singular stamp on the tunes on GOTCHA, which vary from contemporary salsa formats to the trendier bachata, bugaloo, ...

$8.85 THE GREAT REUNION was recorded April 3, 1961. Includes liner notes by Stanley Dance.
Digitally remastered by Ron McMaster using 24-bit technology.
Disc 1 is the previously released THE COMPLETE LOUIS ARMSTRONG & DUKE ELLINGTON SESSIONS. Disc 2 is a bonus CD of conversations, false starts and outtakes from the same sessions.
One of the most historic jazz records ever recorded, THE COMPLETE SESSIONS brings together, for the first and only time, the two most influential figures in jazz. Living up to the expectations placed upon such a meeting would, of course, be impossible, but this album is wonderful by any standard. The format is an interesting one in that basically Duke Ellington assumed Billy Kyle's piano chair in the 1961 version of Armstrong's All Stars band. Rather than performing Armstrong's usual repertoire, however, the two giants chose to record a selection of Ellington's best compositions.
The resulting album allowed Duke to play some of his most sensitive, relaxed jazz piano on record and gave Satchmo a chance to stretch out on some unfamiliar material, which he does with his usual flair and inventiveness. High points include Armstrong's boisterous solos, amazing improvised ...
