When the legendary Sonny Rollins makes a record it is an event in the world of jazz. GLOBAL WARMING, a title that is reflective of Rollins' environmental concerns, is indeed a significant addition to the saxophonist's long career. As one of the elder statesmen of jazz, Rollins is as strong as ever. His firm-yet-caring way with a melody and his strength as an improviser have not dimmed with age.
Rollins' sidemen are also in fine form in support of their formidable leader. Starting off on a contemporary note, "Island Lady" is a funky number that, in the hands of Rollins and his men, never loses touch with it's jazzy foundation. The ballad "Echo-Side Blue" is a delicate piece that Rollins plays with the utmost sensitivity. For fans of the Caribbean groove of the classic "St. Thomas," this album's title track is sure to get your hips swaying. Returning to his hard bop roots, the remaining tracks, "Mother Nature's Blues," Irving Berlin's "Change Partners" and the modal "Clear-Cut Boogie," offer plenty of tasty solos and grooving ensemble work by all.
Recorded at Clinton Recording Studios, New York, New York on January 7 & February 28, 1998. Includes liner notes by Sonny Rollins.
Personnel: Sonny Rollins (tenor saxophone); Clifton Anderson (trombone); Stephen Scott (piano, kalimba); Bob Cranshaw (electric bass); Idris Muhammad, Perry Wilson (drums); Victor See Yuen (percussion).

Global Warming album
$38.09 DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities to appeal to the band's most devoted fans. As a result, DREAMS is neither the definitive ...

Global Warming music CDs
$10.59 Recorded live at Salle Pleyel, Paris, France on March 27, 1969. Includes liner notes by J.L. Ginibre, P. Barithel and Ch. Gauffre.
The Cannonball Adderley Quintet was in good form during this 1969 concert in Paris. They start off with keyboardist Joe Zawinul's hard bop "Rumplestiltskin," which is inexplicably still comically mislabeled "Rufus Still Skinned" as it was on its original ...
| | Sonny Rollins This Is What I Do CD (2000)

$12.35 THIS IS WHAT I DO won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual Or Group.
When it comes to picking material, today's young hard boppers (both instrumentalists and singers) could learn a lot from Sonny Rollins -- a tenor titan who has always had a way of surprising us with interesting, unexpected choices. Over the years, he hasn't made the mistake of limiting himself to overdone Gershwin and Cole Porter favorites; Rollins doesn't exclude well-known standards by any means, but he has also made a point of interpreting a lot of material that other hard boppers have ignored (and that has included everything from forgotten show tunes to Stevie Wonder gems). True to form, the saxman continues to make interesting choices on This Is What I Do, which was recorded in 2000 and finds a 69-year-old Rollins joined by Clifford Anderson on trombone, Stephen Scott ...
| | Thelonious Monk Live At The It Club CDs (1964)
Global Warming album
$16.09 Recorded live at The "It" Club, Los Angeles, California on October 31 and November 1, 1964. Includes liner notes by Bob Blumenthal.
Digitally remastered by Mark Wilder (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
Though Monk was one of the first pianists to explore the strange new music of the 1940s, he could never be categorized merely as a "bop pianist" since his style was too spare, mysterious and angular. Monk would never play a flurry of notes when one or ...

Guided, perhaps, by musical snobbery or roots-rock phobia, some people inexplicably don't like Creedence Clearwater Revival. As the kings of earnest country-inflected rock in an age when radical stances were de rigueur, CCR sported straight-ahead tunes, and may have seemed a bit unhip. But their music stands the test of time with a vengeance. For the doubtful listener, this outstanding, 20-track hits collection has evidence of their greatness in staggering abundance.
Though they produced several excellent albums, Creedence was predominantly a singles band, and CHRONICLE compiles many of their biggest hits. From the slowly building saunter of "Suzie Q" and the spooky, R&B-soaked "I Put a Spell on You" to the fierce "Fortunate Son" and the swampy blues of "Run Through the Jungle," CHRONICLE features the ensemble's signature tunes. Beautifully melancholy songs "Who'll Stop the Rain" and "Someday Never Comes" play off sunny, ...
