Ray Bryant's fourth recorded solo piano recital (and second in less than a year) was performed at the 1977 Montreux Jazz Festival and is a particularly well-rounded set. Bryant plays spirituals, blues, swing standards, John Lewis' "Django," and the obscure "Jungle Town Jubilee." His distinctive and soulful style fits well into every setting, making this an easily recommended set that will satisfy most musical tastes. ~ Scott Yanow
Recorded at Mountain Recording Studios, Montreux, Switzerland on July 13, 1977. Originally released on Pablo Live (2308-201). Includes notes by Norman Granz.

Montreux '77 CD music

"You Can't Lose What You Ain't Never Had" and "The Same Thing" did not appear on the original version of FOLK SINGER. They were recorded at a separate session in April 1964, three months after FOLK SINGER was released.
The title and cover photo of this 1963 recording were an attempt to cash in on the burgeoning American folk revival, but this is pure acoustic blues. Muddy began his career as a Robert Johnson-style solo acoustic performer, and the tunes on FOLK SINGER hark back to those days. He's accompanied sparsely by Willie Dixon, drummer Clifton James and a young Buddy Guy, who provide a stark, deliberate backdrop for Muddy's rich vocal and expressive bottleneck guitar work. The richness of Muddy's baritone is showcased ...
| | Philipp Fankhauser Talk To Me CD (2004)
Montreux '77 music CDs
$12.65 Talk To Me is the title of the latest album from Philipp Fankhauser, the highly regarded blues artist based in Thun, Switzerland, and his first for Memphis International Records. Fankhauser is well known to European audiences but he is also familiar to North Americans as a result of his role as guest vocalist with the band of the late blues great Johnny "Clyde" Copeland. While the bulk of Talk To Me is comprised of l Fankhauser originals it does include two Johnny Copeland compositions and Shemekia Copeland, Johnny's daughter and a renowned star in her own right, penned the liner notes. "Philipp will always be very special to the Copeland family; his music is special for just about everyone," she wrote. The album includes a version of "Members Only," a song that was an R&B hit for Bobby Bland in the 1980s and produced for Fankhauser by Dennis Walker (Robert Cray, B.B. King, Maria Muldaur) with an appearance ...

Montreux '77 CD music
$9.79 Recorded in the early 1950's. Includes liner notes by Gene Norman.
The Original Gerry Mulligan Tentet & Quartet is a reissue on Gene Norman's GNP/Crescendo label. Norman originally produced the sessions in 1953, but the music contained on this CD sounds timeless. A natural extension of Tadd Dameron's bop arranging for big band/big band arranging for small group concept, this album features one ...

| | Duran Duran Arena CD (1998)
Montreux '77 songs
$10.25 Recorded live on tour in Australia, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, and the United States in 1984.
ARENA's high point is its one studio cut, the Nile Rodgers-produced single "The Wild Boys," a minimalist art-funk song that takes its title from William Burroughs, its found sound/cut-up production from Trevor Horn's Art of Noise, and its Spartan funk-pop groove from Prince. A musical Frankenstein creation, it's also an oddly effective single that was perhaps just slightly too weird for the band's teenybopper following; it was a lesser hit than the band's status would have otherwise signified.
It's that high public standing which created this live document, a recording made at various dates on the band's 1983-84 tour ...

Montreux '77 CD music
$18.99 ACOUSTIC BLENDER: A tasty mix of styles and voicesACOUSTIC BLENDER is an alternative folk group consisting of Hope Wesley Harrison, Justin Solonynka, and David & Jenny Heitler-Klevans (otherwise known as Two of a Kind). All the members of Acoustic Blender sing, and their vocal harmonies and arrangements are the centerpiece of the group. Acoustic Blender’s repertoire is eclectic, with themes ranging from the personal to the political, the ridiculous to the sublime. Along with numerous originals, the group covers songs by The Beatles, Patty Larkin, Jackson Browne, Mary Chapin Carpenter, the Roches and the Dixie Chicks. Songs about peace, justice and endangered species are found alongside ones about llamas and lime jello. Otto Bost, host of “Acoustic Eclectic” on WDIY-FM says: "Acoustic Blender is a group of four uniquely talented musicians who sing intelligent, witty, and uplifting songs. They blend their classical, contemporary, and traditional folk influences together as seamlessly as they blend their powerful four-part harmonies."Acoustic Blender releases debut CD: “Crazy Whirled”Crazy Whirled, released October 2008, is the first studio recording from eclectic folk quartet Acoustic Blender. Acoustic Blender is Hope Wesley Harrison, Jenny & David Heitler-Klevans (multi-award-winning children’s duo Two of a Kind), and singer/songwriting pianist Justin Solonynka. After five years of collaboration, Acoustic Blender navigates genre geography with ease.“We don’t really set out to break any boundaries,” says Hope Wesley Harrison. “Music just kind of morphs when we make it, a product of our friendship and musical chemistry.” By Acoustic Blender’s reckoning, Lennon & McCartney’s “In My Life” deserves a brass interlude, and Joanne Hammil’s a cappella round on stress management, “A Question of Tempo,” segues naturally into Edvard Grieg by way of Percy Mayfield. Jackson Browne’s powerful “Lives in the Balance” gets a timely instrumental update, and Mary Chapin Carpenter’s “Why Walk When We Can Fly?” becomes call-and-response gospel with pan-African percussion.Acoustic Blender’s Crazy Whirled also includes ...
