(3 Customer Reviews)
/Joe Pass/Ray Brown. Personnel: Milt Jackson (vibraphone); Joe Pass (guitar); Ray Brown (bass). Recorded in August 1975. Personnel: Milt Jackson (vibraphone); Joe Pass (guitar). Recording information: Cherokee Recording Studios, Los Angeles, CA (08/25/1975). This CD (a straight reissue of the original LP) features a rather notable pianoless combo: vibraphonist Milt Jackson, guitarist Joe Pass, and bassist Ray Brown. These three masterful players recorded together in many settings during the Pablo years, but only this once as a trio. The colorful repertoire (which ranges from "The Pink Panther" and "Blue Bossa" to "Nuages" and "Come Sunday") acts as a device for the musicians to construct some brilliant bop-based solos. ~ Scott Yanow Ray Brown / Milt Jackson / Joe Pass Big Three Songs Big Three Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Bags = Joe = Ray!!!! Big Three
$15.99 Personnel: Charles Mingus (bass instrument); Eric Dolphy (flute, bass clarinet, alto saxophone); Clifford Jordan (tenor saxophone); Jaki Byard (piano); Dannie Richmond (drums). Liner Note Author: Bruno Guermonprez. This three-LP set is the finest recording by one of Charles Mingus' greatest bands, his sextet with Eric Dolphy (on alto, bass clarinet, and flute), tenor saxophonist Clifford Jordan, trumpeter Johnny Coles, pianist Jaki Byard, and drummer Dannie Richmond. Taken from their somewhat tumultuous but very musical tour of Europe, most of these rather lengthy workouts actually just feature a quintet because Coles took sick (he is only heard on "So Long Eric," which here is mistitled "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat"), ...
| | John Zorn Spy vs. Spy: The Music Of Ornette Coleman CD (1989)
Big Three
$13.99 Live Recording
Personnel: John Zorn, Tim Berne (alto saxophone); Mark Dresser (bass); Joey Baron, Michael Vatcher (drums). Recorded at the Power Station, New York, New York on August 18 & 19, 1988. John Zorn teams up with fellow altoist Tim Berne, bassist Mark Dresser and both Joey Baron and Michael Vatcher on drums to perform 17 Ornette Coleman tunes which range chronologically from 1958's "Disguise" to four selections from 1987's In All Languages. The performances are concise with all but four songs being under three minutes and seven under two, but the interpretations are unremittingly violent. The lack of variety in either mood or routine quickly wears one out. After about ten minutes, boredom sets in, although, when taken in short doses, the performances have ...

Big Three
$17.99 Includes Petula Clark's earliest singles and other other unreleased, alternate and rare tracks. TELL ME TRULY features '60s British pop singer Petula Clark's first single, "Tell Me Truly" and rare early material. To much of the British public, the 27 songs on this CD are part of Petula Clark's forgotten early years, as a teenager during the years 1950-1952, while for Americans, who never heard her records until the end of the 1950s, they're utterly unknown. The music rises out of the mists of the late '40s, the 17-year-old Clark intoning like an American pop singer at least ten years older than that (even as her breasts were being bound up and her hair deliberately styled downward to prevent photos from showing any hint ...
