| | Sonny Rollins No Problem CD Sonny Rollins Discography of CDs
Digitally remastered by Phil de Lancie (1999, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
Tenor sax legend Rollins (who played with jazz giants Max Roach and Thelonious Monk in the 1950s) takes it easy here with a set of easy-listening style tunes. Many of the tunes have an appealing "island vacation" feel to them--note the warm, bouncy calypso feel of "Coconut Bread" and the strutting light funk of "Joyous Lake." "Jo Jo" reflects Rollins' 1960s freewheeling hard-bop jazz sound, and Dolly Parton's "Here You Come Again" gets a playful workout. "Illusions" features some steely yet soulful ballad playing.
Rollins' playing is melodically direct, full-bodied and gently rollicking, and guitarist Bobby Broom and vibist Bobby Hutcherson provide a shimmering, dancing backdrop. Drummer Tony Williams (who played in the superb Miles Davis Quintet in the 1960s) provides what can be best described as a rocking swing beat. NO PROBLEM is not for the fans of the Rollins classics such as THE BRIDGE or EAST BROADWAY RUN-DOWN, but smooth jazz-fans who are hungry for a bit of grit would do well to check this out.

No Problem album
$38.49 DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities to appeal to the band's most devoted fans. As a result, DREAMS is neither the definitive Allman Brothers collection nor the gift to hardcore fans that, say, THE BOOTLEG SERIES is to Dylan-philes.
DREAMS' strengths are considerable. ...

No Problem CD music
$15.95 This compilation contains 38 songs, including many new remixes from original master tapes, 6 previously unreleased songs, alternate versions of 3 others, and a comprehensive 36 page booklet, with historic liner notes and photos.
This excellent two-disc collection captures Poco's finest moments from the days when they were laying down the template for all the country-rock music that was to follow. It's hard to remember, but when the Eagles first hit the scene, they were thought by many to be a Poco-wannabe band. Listen to this set and you'll hear why. The Forgotten Trail (1969-1974) culls tracks from Poco's first eight albums, as well as unreleased cuts and singles. From the classic anthem "Pickin' Up the Pieces," which kicks things off, through "You Better Think Twice," "C'mon," "Kind Woman," "From the Inside," "A Good Feelin' to Know," "Crazy Eyes," and on and on, this is wonderful ...

$8.39 Music composed by Frederick Loewe. Lyrics written by Alan Jay Lerner.
Digitally remastered by JVC using XRCD (Extended Resolution Compact Disc) technology.
At a time when digital recording was in its infancy and there was a vogue for having opera singers "cross over" to pop by making albums of Broadway show music, conductor John Mauceri, a master of the crossover field, undertook this "DDD" (digitally recorded, mixed, and mastered) studio cast version of Lerner & Loewe's My Fair Lady with Kiri Te Kanawa in the leading role of "flower girl turned lady" Eliza Doolittle and well-respected British actor Jeremy Irons opposite her as the chauvinistic elocutionist Henry Higgins, accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra. Among the supporting performers were the venerable British actor John Gielgud as Higgins' friend Colonel Pickering and tenor Jerry Hadley as Eliza's paramour, Freddy Eynsford-Hill. The chief attributes of the recording are the various additions to the score (as compared to the original Broadway and London cast LPs and the original soundtrack album), possible due to the increased length of 70 minutes, and Irons' spirited performance. Unlike Rex Harrison, who talked his way through the stage and film productions, Irons introduces a certain limited amount of singing here and there, and he manages to come up with his own independent interpretation of the part, which is somewhat more emotional and less authoritarian than Harrison, but is still true to the character. Conscious that this is a purely audio interpretation, he projects more than he might if on-stage, but in such an oversized part, that works fine. Gielgud hasn't got much to do, but does what he has well; Hadley sings his big song, "On the Street Where You Live," with verve; and Warren Mitchell, as Eliza's father, is suitably roughhewn in his songs, "With a Little Bit of Luck" and "Get Me to the Church on Time." The recording's only real disappointment ...
