Trombonist Al Grey and tenor saxophonist Billy Mitchell were the original stars of this 1957 recording, an offshoot of Dizzy Gillespie's then-running big band. Within a couple of years of this date, however, trumpeter Lee Morgan and pianist Wynton Kelly emerged with careers of their own and today are the most well-known musicians to have been involved in the session. Morgan became known for his work with Art Blakey and for the Blue Note label, and Kelly through working with Miles Davis and Cannonball Adderly and leading his own trio.
Due to the presence of Benny Golsen and Roger Spotts as arrangers (and composers of six out of eight tunes), this session comes off as more of a little-big-band event than the kind of hard-bop situation which Morgan in particular would soon come to epitomize. The four horns are lush and confidant, creating the illusion of a much larger ensemble, and each musician is carefully featured in turn. Fans of Oliver Nelson's THE BLUES AND THE ABSTRACT TRUTH should find much here to their liking, particular Golson's one compositional contribution, the gorgeous "Whisper Not."
Recorded at Master Recorders, Hollywood, California on February 18, 1957. Originally released on Specialty (2110). Includes liner notes by Ralph J. Gleason.
Compilation producer: Billy Vera.
Personnel: Lee Morgan (trumpet); Wynton Kelly (piano); Billy Mitchell (tenor saxophone); Billy Root (baritone saxophone); Al Grey (trombone); Paul West (bass); Charles Persip (drums).

Dizzy Atmosphere album
$10.15 This is part of Blue Note's Limited Edition Connoisseur series.
The fact that THE PROCRASTINATOR is a shade more atmospheric than other Morgan recordings from this period can be attributed to several factors. For one, the presence of Bobby Hutcherson on vibes gives Morgan new colors to work with as a composer, which he does to great effect on the title cut. The title cut features an elegiac opening statement reminiscent of the Modern Jazz Quartet; the tune ultimately yields to a sort of long-form variation on the blues. Another factor is the continued involvement of Wayne Shorter as a composer on Morgan's dates. Shorter's ...

| | Teaze On The Loose CD (1978) (Import) Canada
Dizzy Atmosphere songs
$15.25 Teaze was originally formed in Windsor, Ontario, in the mid-'70s, and started out as a cover band playing Detroit-styled hard rock at local bars in the vein as bands such as Bob Seger System, Grand Funk, MC5, and Alice Cooper. Consisting of band members Brian Danter (lead vocals, bass), Mike Kozak (drums), Mark Bradac (guitar), and Chuck Price (guitar), Teaze eventually moved to Toronto and established a large local following, quickly becoming one of the hottest bar bands in the area. In 1976, they recorded a number of demo songs in hopes of securing a recording contract, but the demos were so good they ended up being released as their debut self-titled album on a small local label. The record attracted the attention of Aquarius Records, and the band were signed to a national recording contract. Teaze relocated to Montreal where the debut album for the label, On the Loose was recorded and released in 1977 with producer George Lagios. ...
