REMEMBER ME is a 22-track collection of rare and previously unreleased tracks recorded 1963-1967.
Recorded between 1963 and 1967. Includes liner notes by Rob Bowman and Bill Belmont.
Digitally remastered by Phil De Lancie (1991, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
REMEMBER ME is a 22-track collection of outtakes and rarities recorded between 1963 and 1967. Among some of the odds and ends are Redding's only attempt at a "dance craze" song ("The Boston Monkey"), a musical public service announcement ("Stay In School") and a poignant song co-written with his wife Zelma ("I've Got Dreams To Remember").
Redding pays homage to heroes Little Richard ("Send Me Some Lovin'") and Sam Cooke ("Cupid"), and also includes a Drifters cover ("There Goes My Baby") that was part of his repertoire long before he started recording. Among the unusual footnotes are a a remake of Redding's first, failed pre-Stax single ("She's All Right"), an often-overlooked Isaac Hayes-David Porter nugget ("Trick Or Treat") and a James Brown-inspired number featuring early employer Johnny Jenkins on guitar ("Come To Me"). Alongside Stax horn arrangements on songs such as "Loving By The Pound" (later covered by Solomon Burke) and "Little Ol' Me" are other uncommon nuances. These include the background vocals on "She's All Right" and "Don't Be Afraid Of Love" and a ballad cut with an anonymous female singer ("I'm Coming Home") that could have easily ended up on KING & QUEEN.
Personnel includes: Otis Redding (vocals, acoustic guitar, tambourine); Johnny Jenkins (guitar); Isaac Hayes (piano); Ron Capone (drums); David Porter (background vocals); Floyd Newman.
Booker T. & The MG's: Booker T. Jones (organ); Steve Cropper (guitar, bass); Donald "Duck" Dunn (bass); Al Jackson, Jr. (drums).

Remember Me
$5.89 Eric Davidson of the New Bomb Turks compiled this collection of 16 high-attitude rock & roll bands whose quality level far outstrips their (current) public recognition, and while some of this sounds like the Turks (especially the Columbian Neckties, who've learned well from the masters), the only clear connection between most of these cuts is the notion that enthusiasm and adrenaline go a long way toward creating great music. Between the Stones-style strut of the Rock 'n' Roll Soldiers, the speedy '70s-style hard rock of Dixie Witch, the garage-pop sneer of the Cuts, the full-on punk assault of the Baseball Furies, the stripped-back funky swagger of the Chargers Street Gang, the blues-wailing freakout of Scat Rag Boosters, the Misfits-ish bellowing of the Diverters, and the bummed-out mid-'60s moan of the Hunches and the Goddamned Gentlemen, Davidson has found a passel of worthwhile bands that actually have distinctive sounds and personalities, and while some tracks hit the target cleaner than others, pretty much everyone on board sounds like a band you wouldn't mind hearing more from, either in a quality dive or on your stereo system. ...
| | Enrico Rava Easy Living CD (2004)
Remember Me
$14.65 Easy Living marks the return of veteran composer and trumpeter Enrico Rava to the roster of Manfred Eicher's ECM label after a 17-year break. Rava is regarded by many as the father of modern Italian jazz, and on Easy Living it's easy to see why. Rava's consummate, innovative lyricism and subtle yet profound harmonic inquiry lie at the heart of the Italian music in all of its manifestations, from post- and neo-bop to free and avant-garde articulations. Recorded at home in Udine with the same band he's been gigging with for the past four years, Easy Living is a relaxed, low-key affair that is nonetheless fully engaged and deceptive in its pastoral appearance. The nine compositions on Easy Living run the gamut from songlike architectures like "Cromosomi," which opens the set, to the shimmering contrapuntal speculative investigations of "Sand," where Stefano Bollani's piano and Gianluca Petrella's trombone engage one another in a slippery minor-key dialogue on both sides of the modal frame. When Rava enters for his solo across this spacious blue-black abyss, he roots the tune in both space and time with a subtle tension that follows Bollani's outward efforts but then brings them back into the scalar line. ...
