Trombonist Max Collie was born in Australia but relocated to England in 1963. A fine trad player, he has led Dixieland-oriented combos ever since, usually under the name of the Rhythm Aces. In 1974, while visiting Atlanta, he recorded four albums of material which have been reissued by the GHB label on four CDs. Volume 4 features the pianoless sextet (with trumpeter Phil Mason and clarinetist Jack Gilbert) jamming on such numbers as "Ole Miss Rag," "The Entertainer," "Nobody's Sweetheart," and "Original Dixieland One-Step." Although there are few surprises, the music has plenty of drive, spirit, and joy; easily recommended to fans of New Orleans jazz. ~ Scott Yanow

$18.99 "A born showman... Creel's ultra hip stage presence and sleek sexiness barely contain the kind of star quality that other singers can only dream of possessing. His âwatchabilityâ factor is stratospheric!â -Show Business WeeklyUnlike many manufactured, pre-fab music acts today, Gavin Creel is a multi-faceted performer who is forging a unique path and steadily carving out his own place in the entertainment industry. Creel was raised in a small city in Ohio and spent his childhood studying classical music, while obsessively listening to Top 40 radio. He developed a bizarre roster of childhood musical heroes that included Billy Joel, George Michael, and Harry Connick Jr. After graduating from high school, he took his passion for music and performing to the University of Michigan where he majored in musical theatre. During his collegiate years, with sights set firmly on the New York stage, Creel started writing and creating his own sound that combined his love for pop music with the emotional energy of the theatre. Once he hit New York City, Creel broke out with a Best Actor Tony nomination for his Broadway debut in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE. Since then, he has solidified his reputation as one of the businessâ top young performers, starring in such productions as the Off-Broadway cult hit, BAT BOY, the world premiere of Stephen Sondheimâs BOUNCE, and most recently, the Tony Award ...
