Steeler album Product Description
Steeler album by Steeler was released Jul 15, 1992 on the Shrapnel label. On nearly all counts, the debut from Los Angeles heavy metal quartet Steeler is an unremarkable, even generic release; but what makes the album important is the presence of Swedish guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen, which marks his official introduction to U.S. audiences. Malmsteen's playing -- which would later gain greater notoriety in the context of Alcatrazz and his own band Rising Force -- was nothing short of a revolution in guitar circles at the time of Steeler's release. While other rock guitarists were still clamoring to figure out Eddie Van Halen's tricks, Malmsteen's shocking virtuosity -- based on classical music as much as rock -- was something for which few were prepared. The story goes that Malmsteen was flown in at the last minute by producer Mike Varney to finish the album after the songs had already been written (by bandleader/lead singer Ron Keel) and recorded; Malmsteen quickly added his tracks and Steeler was released. Obviously, cliché-ridden songs like "On the Rox," "Born to Rock," and "Backseat Driver" -- based on predictable rock chord progressions -- bear none of the compositional complexity and classical trademarks of Malmsteen's writing, and they remain undistinguished except for the dazzling guitar solos. ...See Full Description

metal at it's best!! I just got this cd, and it really rocks born to rock is in my opinion the best song on here, back seat driver is another good one, this is 80's metal at it's best, I never get tired of listening to this cd. the last song is a ballad song but kicks into high gear, outstanding!! this is Ron Keel's best vocals ever! this is a must have cd. get it before it's gone, if you like metal and you like to rock, and you are into the 80's metal scene, this one is for you!! ROCK ON!! By gielowlee (West Bend WI)
The American debut This is where it all started for Yngwie. This is definitely one not to overlook as it captures a very young (19 I think?) Malmsteen who is already a giant in this first American recording. Highlights are definitely No Way Out, Hot On Your Heels and On The Rox. Abduction is also cool for the layered harmonies. Even though a lot of the material is predicatable metal, this is not what I'm listening to this album for. If you enjoy Yngwie then you'll find this worth listening to. By a reviewer (Sacramento)
RON KEEL & YNGWIE MALMSTEEEN HELL YEAH! GREAT BEGINNING TO A COUPLE OF GREAT MUSICAL CAREERS. RON KEEL IS ALL ROCK, AND YNGWIE IS THE ROLL. IF THEY HAD STUCK TOGETHER THE 80'S WOULD HAVE BEEN A COOLER PLACE. By harold-robinson (PHOENIX, AZ. )
There's only one thing better than this CD There's only one thing better than this CD and that's the vinyl album. Had this album since it first came out, one of my few treasured titles. I intend to now by the CD. By mango1st (Brisbane, Australia)
| eruption watch out i thought eruption was the most killer solo i heard, this just incredible. when he goes from the acoustic to the electric, just fills my appetite with delight. hearing that soaring feedbacking strat is just mindblowing. when he does those ascending runs that you think is out of this world then he has the nerve to expand on that by adding some descending to it. still will never forget the first time i heard it. the songs are three chord rock which are good tunes. down to the wire, on the rox, serenade is good to. this is when ron keel was pretty good. i thought his solo stuff sucked. if you like good guitar get this.
