Photographers: Scott Weiner; Lisa Moore . 1999's Maze not only represents Vinnie Moore's return to his neo-classical shred roots, it also marks the guitarist's Shrapnel Records homecoming. It had been over a decade since Moore released his surprisingly successful debut for the label that essentially defined the rock guitar virtuoso genre. After spending years trying to shed the neo-classical tag and developing a Satriani-esque phrasing ability/tonal vocabulary, Moore brought some new tricks to his old bag, and Maze benefits because of it. The compositions are more mature than those on Mind's Eye and Time Odyssey and Moore's instrumental voice is light years in advance of what it was during his previous neo-classical forays. Mind's Eye may have heavily outsold Maze, but that was a result the timeliness of Moore's first Shrapnel offering. If forced to pick between these two releases, fans of the genre -- who should probably have both discs in their collection -- will be wise to pick up Maze. ~ Vincent Jeffries Vinnie Moore Maze Songs | 1. | Maze, The |

| Maze Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) An Authentic Masterpiece! I wouldn't believe that perfect (Mind's Eye and Time Odyssey) could be repeated since I obtained this album. This is the absolute food for brain cells. Each song forms a unique music masterpiece, while it produces a variety of colours and memories. Submitted by dmpexr (Greece) Was This Review Helpful? Possibly the Best Instrumental Guitar Albums Ever! This album simply blew me away. From the neoclassical progressive title track at the beginning to the slow, beautifully melodic "Fear and Trepidation" that ends the album, it is a nonstop ride of emotions. Vinnie's guitar playing has an amazing amount of feeling. Along with subtle keyboards and some nice bass lines, "The Maze" turns out to be a pure masterpiece. AWESOME In this cd, Vinnie outdid himself, it contains really melodic stuff, really fast and also slow songs. A lot of moods can be found here.
The guitar playing, as always, is awesome.
The band is really great, Dave LaRue, Shane Gaalas and Tony Macalpine.
A must have for any guitar player Submitted by a reviewer (Santiago, CHILE) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$13.65 Personnel: Vinnie Moore (guitar), Andy West (bass), Tony MacAlpine (keyboards), Tommy Aldridge (drums). Personnel: Vinnie Moore (guitar); Tony MacAlpine (keyboards); Tommy Aldridge (drums). Recording information: Prairie Sun Studios, Cotati CA (08/1996). Who's faster: Yngwie Malmsteen or Vinnie Moore? That was the question back in 1986 when this recording was released. An obvious clone of Malmsteen, Moore burst upon the scene proving that, yes, someone else could play "that fast too." The problem with Mind's Eye and the subsequent genre of shredding that followed was that it became stagnant. Malmsteen turned heads from all musical styles because of his technical proficiency back in the early '80s, but those same heads quickly turned away to find out that there ...

$7.49 Personnel: Vinnie Moore (guitar); Jordan Rudes (keyboards); Michael Bean (bass); Joe Franco (drums). Recorded at Kajem/Victory Studios, Gladwyne, Pennsylvania. During the post-Van Halen shred eruption of the '80s, only a few guitarists made anything that resembled a unique musical statement. For every Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, there were a dozen Joey Tafollas. Perhaps the most groundbreaking musician of this era was Yngwie Malmsteen. The Swedish virtuoso ...

$13.15 Personnel: Vinnie Moore (guitar); Brian Tichy (drums). Audio Mixer: Paul Hamingson. Recording information: Kajem Studios, Gladwyne, PA; Vinman Studios. When the dense and often difficult guitar virtuoso subgenre fell on tough commercial times in the '90s, first-tier artists like Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen began to lose their relevance. As hard as the new musical environment was on the legitimate icons of shred, it was nearly catastrophic for many talented but undefined artists such as ...

| | Bluegrass Class Of 1990 CD (1990)
Maze
$6.49 This compilation album reads like a who's-who of the progressive bluegrass/new acoustic music movement: pros like mandolinist David Grisman, guitarist Tony Rice, dobro player Jerry Douglas and a pre-Flecktones Bela Fleck are all represented, as well as the (very) young Alison Krauss and many, many others. Though ...
| | Hawkwind Best Of Friends & Relations CD (1993) (Import) United Kingdom
Maze
$15.85 An intriguing addition to the Friends and Relations series, The Rarities is, in fact, an assemblage drawn more or less equally from the original album releases, plus a vault full of further material that never made it onto the LPs themselves. This includes additional material by the unrelated (but certainly not uninfluenced) Underground Zero alongside guitarist Huw Lloyd Langton's eponymous solo band, Michael Moorcock's intriguing "Brothel in Rosenstrasse," and Inner City Unit's statement of intent, "I.C.U." Included, too, are several of the numbers omitted from the earlier Best of Friends & Relations album, including Robert Calvert's "Work Song" and Nik Turner's "Phone Home Elliot" (but still no "Man With the Golden Arm") -- although a couple of songs duplicated from that set do suggest Rarities was not the most carefully compiled album in the Hawkwind back catalog. Ultimately, the usefulness of this album (as with all the other Friends and Relations discs) precisely depends on how deeply the listener needs to delve into the tangled world of Hawkwind. The mothership, after all, has sufficient avenues and alleyways in its own right. Anagram. 2003.
Drawn from the three vinyl volumes of Friends & Relations, this CD collection rounds up 16 of the original 24 songs and, while one can certainly question the decision that saw Robert Calvert's "Widow Song" and Nik Turner's "Man with the Golden Arm" numbered among the absentees, still the collection was far-reaching enough to satisfy most tastes. As expected, the highlights are those delivered by the artists closest to ...
