Dwell Records' Southern Death: A Tribute to Pantera collects Pantera covers by underground metal acts like Crematorium, Disarray, and the brilliantly-named Scary German Guy. Enertia's "Cowboys From Hell," Human's "Five Minutes Alone," Gooseflesh's "Becoming," and Black Earth's "I'm Broken" are among the most memorable songs on this worthwhile tribute album. ~ Heather Phares

$16.45 While sitting in Sunday School the teacher asked for prayer requests. A lifelong friend sitting in front of me pleaded, “Please remember my brother in prayer; he’s out there….on the wide road!” For some reason his request hit me like a rock and immediately I thought of the referenced scripture caveat from Matthew 7:13-14: "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” After the teacher led in prayer I couldn’t get the scripture out of my head. Then I thought of another – Proverbs 14:12 – that says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.”I thought of how our country is obsessed with teen stars like Britney, Lindsey, Paris and Nicole and how much I don’t want to see our young people idolizing and imitating them. I thought of them as all being….on the wide road. Then I thought of a cartoon comment I had seen in a local newspaper that depicted two young girls playing with Barbie dolls. One said, “My Barbie’s going into rehab;” the other said, “Mine’s going to jail for drunk driving!” God help us!I pulled out my pen and paper and began to scribble. “There are two roads in this life that you can travel down and each one will take you where you want to go. One road leads to happiness and joy unspeakable, but it’s a narrow road. And the other road is paved just for your pleasure and you’ll find most of your friends are on that road…because everybody wants to go where everybody’s going; it’s a wide road.”The teacher had become background noise as I realized I was being given something wonderful and important from my Heavenly Father. An elbow in the ribs from my wonderful wife – Renee - coupled with a stern look of, “Pay attention!” did not deter me. Later she told me she thought I was writing my grocery list. I went back to scribbling.“On the wide road, seems like everybody’s traveling; on the wide road where lives just keep unraveling. There’s a way that seems to be right, but it’s wrong! It’s the wide road!”I wanted to start singing it as I was hearing it in my head but didn’t want to disrupt the class. I got another elbow before continuing.“As you travel down that road you search for answers; there’s opinion from most everyone you meet. And you make decisions based upon what you believe is right; it’s a confusing road! So you end up wanting to be like all the others; it’s always easier just going with the flow. But when everyone around you smiles and tells you, “you’re ok!” it’s time to start worrying about where you’re going!”Weeks later as I shared the song with my dear, bass-playing friend with the strangest first name I’ve ever heard – Nep – he suggested, “The song needs something else; something to bring it all home; a resolve!”Later that evening I resolved it:“But there is one whose spirit calls to you when there’s no place left to turn; He’s been riding right beside you all the time! And when you ask the Prince of Peace to guide you, suddenly you find….you’re about to ...
