| | Land Of The Wizard: A Tribute To Ozzy Osbourne CD
A collection of death metal bands paying tribute to the music of Ozzy Osbourne.
There's little question that Ozzy Osbourne deserves a tribute. Few figures in metal history have been as influential or iconic as Oz, and he's stayed that way for generations. That's why Dwell's Land of the Wizard: A Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne is disappointing; it concentrates on little-known metal bands of the late '90s, which may stand testament to his lasting popularity, but results in a less compelling album. The bands do their best, revamping the songs occasionally but staying faithful to the spirit and feel of the original, even when things get a bit industrial or alt-metal. As such, none of the bands really stand out, even if the music isn't necessarily that bad. It's just another tribute album that works better on paper than on the stereo. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Land Of The Wizard: A Tribute To Ozzy Osbourne music CDs
$6.85 In his own inimitable fashion, Billy Joel has crafted some of the catchiest pop hits of the '80s and '90s, and most of them--17, to be exact--are on this disc. The jaunty, nostalgic "Keeping the Faith" opens things up, and we cruise right down memory lane with Billy: through the pop-soul of "A Matter of Trust," the brash, rocking "I Go to Extremes" and "All About Soul" (remixed here to good effect). Joel has grown ...

As the first grunge band to be signed by a major label, Seattle's Soundgarden opened the pop floodgates, and a deluge of thrash-o-rama bands began swamping the airwaves. Following a series of trend-setting releases on the independent Sub Pop and SST labels, Soundgarden's initial A&M releases LOUDER THAN LOVE and ...

$17.09 "...a healthy aversion to standard issue pop melody and chording set him apart; a sometimes waifish sensitivity put him squarely in the singer-songwriter box.The follow-up finds Zaden writing tougher hooks, singing more confidently, daring a little more humor and hubris. Far from over-whelming his music's tuneful, thoughtful character, Zaden has amplified it with a garage-band dynamic that makes Green Enough to Grow bracing and, at the same time, embracing."Sean PiccoliPop Music WriterSouth Florida Sun SentinelNovember 23,2001"...Green Enough to Grow is paved throughout with the very best...quickly outlining Zaden's gift for crafting snappy, instantly memorable tunes...Zaden is obviously completely in charge of a natural talent."Jeff StrattonNew Times BrowardOctober 25, 2001Green Enough To Grow: Coming of Age at the Turn of the MillenniumMark Zaden's latest CD release, Green Enough To Grow, is an 11-song autobiographical account of the last two-and-a-half years of his life. But the stories Zaden tells could be anyone's. That's what connects with audiences and why Green Enough is a powerful and touching statement about coming-of-age at the turn of the millennium.Zaden's songwriting on Green Enough juxtaposes a sensitive view of the human condition with a hard roots-rock edge. This is evident on standout cuts such as "Here In My Mind," "Gabriella" and "Jade." Zaden also shows off his acoustic chops and soulful vocals on the plaintive "Making Other Plans" and the beautiful "Goodbye Avalon," which stunningly closes the recording."These songs look at relationships," Zaden says. "Relationships to one another, to the planet and to life." Green Enough began to grow soon after the release of Zaden's solid debut CD Six Is Fine in October of 1998. By January 1999, he was back in the Crib -- the Brooklyn, New York studio owned by long-time collaborator Nunzio Signore -- recording initial tracks and brainstorming ideas for the sound on Green Enough.Zaden reassembled the Six Is Fine band, a seasoned ...
