| | World's Greatest Bluegrass Band CD
World's Greatest Bluegrass Bands is a terrific 32-track collection that features representative selections from many of the biggest names in bluegrass. Bill Monroe may be missing, but Carl Story, the Osborne Brothers, Joe Maphis, Mac Wiseman, Lester Flatt, and the Jones Brothers are nothing to sneeze at. It may not be a perfect collection and it shouldn't be seen as a definitive history of the genre, but it's entertaining nonetheless. ~ Thom Owens

| | Avett Brothers I And Love And You CD (2009)
World's Greatest Bluegrass Band CD music
$10.39 North Carolina sibling duo the Avett Brothers return in 2009, fresh off a few years of building a cult following for its melodic and rootsy alt-bluegrass sound, with the subdued I AND LOVE AND YOU. The opening single and title track basks in piano-pop splendor in an odd mix of Beach Boys, Byrds, and the Band.
The Avett Brothers continue charting the same musical course as EMOTIONALISM and MIGNONETTE on major-label debut I AND LOVE AND YOU, despite the presence of hands-on producer Rick Ruben. The country-folk ...
| | Rosanne Cash List CD (2009)
World's Greatest Bluegrass Band music CDs
$11.99 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now ...

World's Greatest Bluegrass Band music CDs
$13.99 According to the liner notes, in most ways Chris Thile was typical 13-year-old when he put out this debut album (and the photos of the cherubic, Chicago Cubs-bedecked teen would seem to confirm this). From the musical evidence, though, he was a typical teenager in the way that, say, Mozart was probably a typical teenager. The level of playing and compositional skill, not to mention the imagination, displayed on ...

World's Greatest Bluegrass Band songs
$12.25 While Buck Owens made some of the best straightforward honky tonk records of the 1960s, the man wasn't afraid to expand his boundaries, cutting some great rockabilly sides as Corky Jones in 1957 and recording a fine version of Chuck Berry's "Memphis" in 1965. In 1971, at ...
