6th Release On Relapse
Amorphis: Pasi Koskinen (vocals); Tomi Koivusaari (vocals, guitar); Esa Holopainen (acoustic & electric guitar); Kim Rantala (keyboards); Olli-Pekka Laine (bass); Pekka Kasari (drums). Additional personnel: Mamba (percussion). My Kantele is a follow-up to Amorphis' excellent Elegy. Elegy was an album that worked as a culmination point between death metal and progressive metal, and opened all doors in the rock world for Amorphis. My Kantele doesn't contain anything very new and special; actually, it seems that all four previously unreleased tracks are just leftovers from Elegy. That isn't a bad thing at all -- the new songs work well enough and of course these kinds of packages are gold for fans. The most interesting songs on the EP are the covers, Hawkwind's "Levitation" and Kingston Wall's "And I Hear You Call." Amorphis covered "Levitation" very, very well -- but unfortunately they copied Kingston Wall's arrangement of the excellent "And I Hear You Call," so it doesn't offer a lot. ~ Antti J. Ravelin

Sepultura: Max Cavalera (vocals, acoustic guitar); Andreas Kisser (acoustic & electric guitars); Paulo Jr. (bass, percussion); Igor Cavalera (drums, percussion). Recorded at Rockfield Studios and Cheepstow Castle, South Wales. Chaos A.D. was the record where everything came together for Sepultura, when they graduated from being an excellent, if derivative, band into one of metal's most unique voices. Their strident political dissidence is more focused than ever, referring explicitly to injustices in their native Brazil. The band's thick, chunky guitars, busy percussion, and hoarsely shouted vocals may be rooted in death metal, but it was often hard to call Sepultura a true death metal band, even if they flirted heavily with the style by way of Slayer; Chaos A.D. is rooted just as much in hardcore punk in its lean, ...

$12.05 Amorphis: Pasi Koskinen (vocals); Tomi Koivusaari (acoustic & electric guitars); Esa Holopainen (guitar); Santeri Kallio (keyboards); Niclas Etelavouri (bass); Pekka Kasari (drums). Additional personnel: Sakari Kukko (saxophone); Antti Halonen (saw). Recorded at Finnvox Studios, Helsinki, Finland between October and December 2000. Death metal isn't for everyone -- especially first-wave Scandinavian death metal as practiced by Amorphis during the band's early years. Some love it, others don't know how seriously to take it, but everyone agrees that the folks who make such an extremely singular noise deserve a little credit for valuing an artistic construct more than ...

My Kantele
$16.15 UMMAGUMMA features a set of live performances on Disc 1 and a collection of solo studio projects by various band members on Disc 2. Pink Floyd: David Gilmour (vocals, guitar); Richard Wright (vocals, keyboards); Roger Waters (vocals, bass); Nick Mason (drums). Disc 1 was recorded live at Mothers, Birmingham, England and live at The Manchester College Of Commerce, England in June 1969. For many years, this double LP/CD was one of the most popular albums in Pink Floyd's pre-Dark Side of the Moon output, containing a live disc and a studio disc all for the price of one (in the LP version). The live set, recorded in Birmingham and Manchester in June 1969, is limited to four numbers, all drawn from the group's first two LPs or their then recent singles. Featuring the band's second lineup (i.e., no Syd Barrett), the set shows off a very potent group, their sound held together on-stage by Nick Mason's assertive drumming ...

$35.75 Late in 1988 a girl makes her singing debut in a country hotel. Amid the noise, the drinkers and the heat, Sharon Benjaminâs voice reaches out for the first time to the people of the Australian heartland, an audience she will eventually come to capture in word and song. 1993 brought the release of âSomething For Everyoneâ, her debut. Intended for sale only at live shows, Sharonâs songs were picked up by radio right across Australia. Itâs worth a mention too that this recording was a cassette release. In â97 Sharon and husband Mark Hillier formed a duo called âStrike Twoâ which coincided with the release of an album of the same name, and boasted nine songs penned between the tuneful partners. The debut single âGhost Trainâ remained in the Australian Country Music Top 100 charts for over 3 months, reaching an impressive number 8. A second single climbed to number 31.Sharonâs 3rd release, a 6 track EP entitled âAs The Crow Fliesâ created a flurry of interest in music and radio circles across the country. With five of her most heartfelt compositions, the EP is dedicated to the memory of her late father. With this release, Sharon had the opportunity to go visual for the first time with video clips for the singles âHidden In The Lightsâ and âWhat Day Is It?â which can be requested on CMC.Sharonâs song writing is gaining her more and more recognition. Her song âAs The Crow Fliesâ was selected as a finalist in the country section of the Unisong International Song Contest for 2004. âAs The Crow Fliesâ was 1 of only 19 Australian songs selected throughout the 12 categories which ranged from country to pop, & childrenâs to comedy. Sharon also had two of her compositions recorded by fellow entertainer Craig Giles in 2005, one of these songs becoming Craigâs first single which reached top 10 in the Top30 Country Tracks, and No1 on the Mildura Hotfm Top100. Sharon & Craig were also selected as finalists in the Duo section of the Victorian Country Music Awards for 2006. More recently, Australian Country Music Legend âReg Pooleâ has just recorded one of Sharonâs songs for and up-coming release.âPerfect Little Worldâ was ...
