| | Sammy Hagar Musical Chairs CD Sammy Hagar Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
One of Sammy Hagar's rawest recordings, Musical Chairs features some guitars that are a treat for listeners fond of the much tougher, uncompromising music that Hagar used throughout the '70s to build one of the largest followings for an American hard rock solo artist. With a strong backing lineup that included former Montrose alum Denny Carmassi (drums), Bill Church (bass), and Alan Fitzgerald (keys), Hagar's music comes off lean and mean. Thanks especially to Hagar himself and longtime musical associate Gary Pihl, the riffing on Musical Chairs separates the recording from many hard rock issues of the day. Aggressive numbers like "Turn up the Music" and "Straight From the Hip Kid" do the most sonic damage on this classic red-rocker offering. When Hagar tries to deal with broader lyrical material, as on "Crack in the World," he exposes what would later become a bit of an Achilles heal. While not as bad as the occasionally awkward, jingo-istic, or just plain goofy quasi-political commentary featured most prominently on some of the singer's '80s recordings, "Crack in the World" demonstrates Hagar's tendency to reach for lyrical concepts that extend beyond his good-time rock specialty. Fortunately, Hagar sticks to the formula during most of Musical Chairs, making it an early career highlight for the singer/guitarist. ~ Vincent Jeffries Sammy Hagar Musical Chairs Songs Musical Chairs Music Review Purchase Musical Chairs CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Sammy Hagar Standing Hampton CD (1981)

| | Kenny Aaronson Through The Fire CD (1984)
Musical Chairs CD music
$6.49 Journey axeman Neal Schon satisfies his yearning for a four-piece Van Halen/Montrose environment through meat-and-potatoes metalhead Sammy Hagar on this heavily doctored live document, the creatively titled Through the Fire. Journeyman Aaronson, who looks cool and played bass on tour with Billy Idol, gives some new wave credence to this quartet, in image only. Like Schon, drummer Shrieve also boasts Santana roots. Most importantly, each member held the same management. Of course, Through the ...
| | Sammy Hagar CD (1977) (Import) United Kingdom
Musical Chairs music CDs
$17.15 One of Sammy Hagar's better early-career outings, this eponymous effort is most commonly referred to as The Red Album. Starting off with one of the most affective rock anthems that Hagar would write during his solo career, "Red," the rest of the disc maintains its generally energetic pace and relatively high quality. Joining guitarist/vocalist Hagar on the 1977 release are longtime ...
| | Sammy Hagar Nine On A Ten Scale CD (1976) (Import) United Kingdom
Musical Chairs songs
$17.15 While most would suggest that the seminal American hard rock debut from the Sammy Hagar-fronted Montrose is the real coming-out for the singer/guitarist, serious Hagar fans might disagree and offer that title to Nine on a Ten Scale. After two discs with Montrose (a self-titled record and Paper Money), Hagar struck out on his own and quickly released this solo debut after Capitol Records snatched up the hot young vocalist in 1976. If Hagar was anxious to show that he had musical skills that extended way beyond the gravel-voiced, Led Zeppelin-esque howling that he had demonstrated with Ronnie Montrose's heavy metal outfit, this recording definitely ...
| | Sammy Hagar Danger Zone CD (1979) (Import) United Kingdom
Musical Chairs album
$17.15 An early studio recording featuring perhaps the best, or at least most popular, backing band lineup, Danger Zone is not up to the standard of Sammy Hagar's best material: be it the earliest, hardest rocking music (most notably, the debut Montrose effort) or his very successful early '80s MOR rock. "The red rocker" does put together a couple nice moments, displaying the deft songwriting ...
| | Sammy Hagar Street Machine CD (1979) (Import) England; Remastered; United Kingdom
Musical Chairs CD music
$16.19 Released in 1979, Street Machine is Sammy Hagar's fifth solo studio release for Capitol records, and like many of his previous offerings, the record has more than a few highlights, but fails to fulfill on the musician's songwriting and performing promise. The recording is tighter than prior efforts, thanks to essential backup members Bill Church (bass), Chuck Ruff (drums), and, last but certainly not least, Gary Pihl on guitar, but there isn't enough strong ...
| | Lunasa CD (2001)
Musical Chairs music CDs
$14.15 Irish supergroup Lúnasa released its worldwide debut album in 1999, but several years previously the band had made an eponymous album on its own and issued it in Ireland. This reissue includes ten of the album's original 11 tracks, some of them recorded live and some in the studio, and adds two previously unreleased live performances. The sound is generally fine if not spectacular, but the playing is consistently thrilling. Lúnasa's rhythmic daring and the prominent use of Trevor Hutchinson's string bass ...
| | Feinstein Third Wish CD (2004)
Musical Chairs songs
$10.39 As if its over-the-top cover artwork (featuring a demonic figure as frightening as it is comical) wasn't "metallic" enough, the CD booklet of Feinstein's Third Wish shows leather-draped guitarist David "Rock" Feinstein striking a number of amusing poses that make him look like a cross between Ronnie James Dio (his cousin, actually!) and eccentric Meat Loaf collaborator Jim Steinman! Of course, anyone familiar with the guitarist's former exploits as leader of New York City metal institution the Rods (and, earlier still, guitarist for Dio's first major hard rock band, Elf) will be well aware of his very "unmetallic" and oftentimes self-effacing sense of humor -- not to mention explain his decision to utilize his remarkably nerdy last name for this band. Third Wish is his first solo outing, after all, and coming as it does with the blessing of longtime Manowar metal soldier (and executive producer) Joey DeMaio, one should know exactly what to expect. Except, perhaps, surprisingly high-grade heavy metal -- as instantly familiar as it is timeless -- co-authored by Feinstein and guesting Royal Hunt vocalist John West. Together, the duo has crafted ...
