This set compiles two albums from crooner Rivers, 1965's IN ACTION and the following year's CHANGES. On both sessions, the vocalist demonstrates the ability to straddle the fence between jazz/pop and rock/pop. Features 24 cuts including "By The Time I Get To Phoenix," "Shadow Of Your Smile," and "Strangers In The Night."
A superb compilation of Johnny Rivers' third and eighth albums, providing a good look at two sides of his studio work, the lean, stripped down rock & roll of In Action! juxtaposed with the more ornate and ambitious sounds of Changes. Rivers became more sophisticated in many unexpected ways as time went on; In Action! shows him covering the Beatles' "I Should Have Known Better" in a punchy, lively rendition, where Changes has him incorporating the string arrangement of "Eleanor Rigby" onto John Phillips' "California Dreamin'." He is in excellent voice throughout, and seldom gets too far from rock even on the most heavily orchestrated songs from Changes. The analog-to-digital transfers are excellent and the sound is genuinely impressive, even by BGO's usual high standards. ~ Bruce Eder

This 75-minute album, originally a double-LP (recorded live at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City on April 3, 1970) is a valiant attempt at capturing the Association's concert sound on record. Born and raised in Joliet Il, Jeff Boyle grew up listening to a wide range of musical styles. From Rock and Country, soul and gospel, to Jazz and Orchestral. The self-taught multi-instrumentalist started his career as a club drummer in the 1980\'s playing with Chicago\'s All Night Newsboys. \"The Boys and I played five nights a week for about six years or so. We traveled around the Midwest playing rock clubs, frat parties, and state fairs. We had serious fun!\" Around this time Jeff\'s song-writing started attracting attention. He (and his future wife Lisa Camp) wrote two songs for CBS and Arista records, and he was hired as a staff composer at the Chicago music house Com|track.Since then Boyle, and his partner Joel Raney have written over onethousand commercial music tracks for clients such as McDonalds, Disney, Boeing,Coors Light, Bud Light, and Toyota.Boyle\'s first 4 albums \"Something To Believe In\" (1995) , \"Bubba\" (1999), \"Three\" (2001), and \"Dog Named Zero\" (2004) are filled with fiery performances and melodiesfrom a great cast of characters including; guitarists Phil Miller and Bill Rupert, Cheap Trick\'s Bun E Carlos and Jon Brandt, Jazz trumpeter Orbert Davis, and Hammond B-3 great Steve Bassett.But what holds the songs ...
