Seatrain Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Memories... A CD I couldn't wait to purchase to replace my 8-track. Now it's on my iPod and I can't wait for friends to ask "Who is that?". Well I'm not a dues paying Christian nor bluegrass groupie, but I'll reply it's the album that taught me the story of Job with a real nice tune. They keep it moving and put me a place long-since forgotten. Headphones and 8-track, all night long. Submitted by joe_g_drinksnj (Fairfield, NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

So Who IS "Dirty Linen", anyway? Because as a critic, they should be selling shoes somewhere. To call this glorious music, produced by the wonderful George Martin, a 'minor footnote' indicates that they weren't there, aren't aware of the impact of the band and probably haven't listened to the cds. Greene was never freer musically then here. All of his other stuff is either bluegrass, country or folk.
His electric violin playing here is remarkable, virtuoso, psychedelic and completely out-of-the-box.
Dirty Linen's saying that Peter Rowan's work with Earth Band was more important is absurd. They were limited in both range and appeal. Seatrain brought Rowan into his own. And as for being both "obscure" and from the "west coast", they really weren't. Members came from all over the country, Larry Atamanuik is Eskimo.
These are thrilling tracks, superbly put together by George Martin, and if you haven't heard them, treat yourself today. This is unique psych. Submitted by chucksaymoo (Trenton, NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
So near but far away Found Seatrain stranded 1972 in a small record shop in my hometown in Sweden. Just bought it for the black and white cover but what colours it brougth to me! Few seem to have heard them though and thatīs strange for itīs truely a hidden treasure. Every member, every harmony and poetry line is discreet but excellent. Just listen to the fantastique base by Kulberg! Just recently I also discovered that maybe all this greatness is made magic by the one and only... George Martin. Seatrain album
$15.95 This compilation contains 38 songs, including many new remixes from original master tapes, 6 previously unreleased songs, alternate versions of 3 others, and a comprehensive 36 page booklet, with historic liner notes and photos.
This excellent two-disc collection captures Poco's finest moments from the days when they were laying down the template for all the country-rock music that was to follow. It's hard to remember, but when the Eagles first hit the scene, they were thought by many to be a Poco-wannabe band. Listen to this set and you'll hear why. The Forgotten Trail (1969-1974) culls tracks from Poco's first eight albums, as well as unreleased cuts and singles. From the classic anthem "Pickin' Up the Pieces," which kicks things off, through "You Better Think Twice," "C'mon," "Kind Woman," "From the Inside," "A Good Feelin' to Know," "Crazy Eyes," and on and on, this is wonderful music, ahead of its time in many ways. If Poco had arrived on the scene in the early '90s, they would have been kings of the country charts. Of course, without Poco, country music wouldn't have taken on the rock trappings that it did in the '80s and '90s. As it was, the band was considered too country for the Top 40 rock format of the time, and too rock & roll for country radio. This set is the place to start for an appreciation of the original Poco, when the group was considered to be Richie Furay's band. All the ingredients ...
| | Jonathan Edwards CD (1971)
Seatrain CD music
$7.79 After a stint in the Boston-based combo Sugar Creek, Jonathan Edwards began his solo career with this 1971 self-titled outing. His brand of homespun tunes were perfectly matched to his emotive and soaring tenor. While he penned a majority of the album's dozen selections, Edwards reached back to former bandmates Malcolm McKinney -- author of both the upbeat lovesick lament "Don't Cry Blue" as well as the intimate "Sometimes" -- and Joe Dolce, co-writer of the happy, traveling "Athens County." But it wasn't those standout tracks that would score Edwards his first and only Top Ten hit. The acoustic and optimistic "Sunshine" struck a chord with listeners in the fall of 1971, climbing all the way to a lofty number four on the Pop Singles survey before ultimately becoming a staple of oldies radio. (The self-affirming defiance in the chorus "He can't even run his own life/I'll be damned if he'll run mine," undoubtedly touched upon the remaining vestiges of the 'Us vs. Them' mentality that permeated the concurrent generation.) The effort also includes several other excellent offerings, such as the pastoral mid-tempo "Cold Snow," with Stuart Schulman's hypnotic violin developing a hauntingly beautiful counter-refrain. "Emma" is a gorgeous ballad, sporting some affective ...
| | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Seatrain music CDs
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and producer Kooper has some interesting tricks up his sleeve, as in the over-the-top phasing he lavishes on "You Don't Love Me." The only real disappointment here is that Stills, a far better singer than Kooper, never opens his mouth.
Those familiar with the Live Adventures album these two recorded at the Fillmore West know how brilliant they could be on stage, and here's another gem, recorded at the Fillmore East this time and featuring 'One Way Out,' 'It's My Own Fault' (with Bloomfield trading ...
| | Seatrain Watch CD (1973) Reissued
Seatrain songs
$9.55 Personnel changes make Watch very transitional. Included here is a competent cover of Bob Dylan's "Watching the River Flow" as well as an old warhorse from the Blues Project in "Flute Thing." A strange, but intriguing release. ~ James Chrispell
Seatrain evolved out of the ashes of The Blues Project, lead by flutist Andy Kulberg. Watch was originally issued on LP in 1973 and features a cover version of Bob Dylan's 'Watching The River Flow', plus their unique version of 'Flute Thing', an often-covered Blues Project classic. ...
| | Neil Young American Stars 'N' Bars CD (1977) Remastered
Seatrain album
$6.05 All tracks have been digitally remastered using HDCD technology.
Released right after the career albums TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT and ZUMA and right before the big-selling COMES A TIME and RUST NEVER SLEEPS, this country-rocky 1977 album is often forgotten. But it introduced the sensational "Like A Hurricane," which has remained a staple of Young's concerts, and such quirky favorites as "Homegrown," an ode to marijuana, and "Old Country Waltz," which is exactly what it says it is. As Neil Young's legendary 1970s albums go, it might be a bit of a tossed-off affair, but most country-rockers can only dream of making one album this good.
2003 remastered reissue of 1977 album. This roots 'n' rock album features guests, Emmylou Harris & Linda Ronstadt, & the fan favorite 'Like A Hurricane'. The album initially peaked at #21 & achieved gold status. Nine tracks. Reprise.
Personnel: Neil Young (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, harmonica); Ben Keith (vocals, guitar, steel ...
| | Best Of The Moody Blues CD (1997)
Seatrain CD music
$10.45 THE BEST OF THE MOODY BLUES contains vintage photographs and a conversation with Justin Hayward.
Recorded between 1964 and 1988. Includes liner notes by John Reed.
By keeping it simple and sticking to the hits, this collection successfully relates the story of this pioneering band. The Moody Blues began as a Gerry & the Pacemakers-like, R&B-influenced band fronted by sad-voiced singer Denny Laine, who is heard here on "Go Now." Laine was replaced by Justin Hayward, keyboardist Mike Pinder brought in a Mellotron, and the band hooked up with the London Symphony Orchestra to make the first orchestral-rock album DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, from which "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Nights in White Satin" are included on this album.
Over the next few years the band banged out several gem albums that were full of a distinctive mix of folk-tinged ballads and ambitious prog-rock. Cuts from this period take ...
| | Baby's Anthology CD (1981)
Seatrain music CDs
$8.85 ANTHOLOGY contains tracks from all five of the Babys' albums, originally released between 1976 and 1980.
Digitally remastered using 24-bit technology by Evren Goknar (Capitol Mastering).
This is an expanded version of the then-disintegrating group's 1981 greatest hits compilation. It should probably be listened to as an early clue to lead singer John Waite's new direction in his far more successful solo career; a few of the songs featured here could pass for embryonic versions of the likes of "Missing You."
Not that The Babys music is without its own charms. The band seems to have aimed for a ...
