Wire Less
$18.79 This CD contains B.B. King's first ABC-Paramount studio efforts -- Mr. Blues (1962) and Confessin' the Blues (1965), respectively. While there are inevitable similarities between the projects, offering them back-to-back allows listeners an acute sense of King's rapid maturation and development during what was by all accounts the nexus of the guitarist/vocalist's career. The dozen-song Mr. Blues was a haphazard start for King with the contents taken from three different recording sessions in a 13-month period (March ...

$28.89 This New Day makes perfect sense as a follow-up to Embrace's breakthrough album Out of Nothing. While it could be argued that no song here tugs at the heartstrings quite like the previous album's Chris Martin crossover "Gravity," Richard and Danny McNamara and producer Youth once again offer a heady, steady stream of songs that qualify simultaneously as anthemic ballads and stadium stompers. Whether dealing with the original release or the limited-edition re-release that adds the band's official theme to England's World Cup effort "World at Your Feet," it's a lively, energized affair geared toward uplifting the masses. Songs ...
| | Frequency CD (2006)
Wire Less
$13.05 Frequency is a Chicago-based collective quartet who may not be household names, but anyone who's been paying attention to the Chicago jazz scene of the '90s and 2000s knows these players. Edward Wilkerson, Jr., Harrison Bankhead, and Avreeayl Ra have been appearing in groups and recordings together off and on for the better part of two decades, and while Nicole Mitchell hasn't been active for as long, the fact that she's currently co-president of the esteemed AACM speaks to her respect and stature in the Chicago jazz community. Frequency is an impressive debut that draws from the well of "Spiritual Jazz" that informed so many great Impulse recordings, but with an AACM sensibility. Each member contributes a composition (Mitchell gets two), and nearly half the songs are credited to the group, presumably improvisations. There are some stunning flute and clarinet solos, and the way Mitchell and Wilkerson's lines intertwine at times is nothing short of sublime. Bankhead's bass playing is intuitive and supportive and ...

Wire Less
$15.05 Cat Lee & Co:Cat Lee & Co are an amazing quartet from Helsinki who mix up different music styles and create their own sound with such great ambition. We name our style "Jamgrass" as is sounds so convenient to us.Cat lee & Co as a band, doesn't follow idols or role models, but musicians who we keep deeply in our hearts are: Django Reinhardt, Sol Hoopii, Patsy Cline, Hurriganes, Bessie Smith, Hank Williams, Jimi Hendrix. These people carry/carried the same intensity that we have and believe in....and well, to be honest, they are all....just Fantastic! The Band:Stefanos Hirvonen:the absolute ideal of his life is in mixing together, Hawaiian hula and the gypsy swing style, along with the Fenno-Ugrian bluegrass-traditions. Earlier in his musical career he has played his divine Martin-guitar with Krazy Kats trio. He has played electric guitar with the bands: Blues Affection, Steady Rollin“& Ice Cream-groups; and also he has played baroque guitar with the Battalia Ensemble.Honey Aaltonen:has played earlier on in his musical career, the snare drum (with brushes) with Krazy Kats trio. However in Finland he's known best for swinging shuffle-playing ...
