| | Madonna Erotica (1992) 7 Mixes
Interview Disc Vol. 2 CD music
$7.49 Madonna released EROTICA around the same time she released her SEX book, and that's exactly what it sounds like. The title song has a sensuously static groove over which she commands, "Put your hands all over my body." "Where Life Begins" demands that you do something a whole lot more intimate (and quite unrepeatable here) to her. The CD booklet has a photo of Madonna in bondage. To get across the album's naughty feel, Madonna dispensed with the pop prettiness of LIKE A PRAYER and returned to her hard-core dance club roots.
She and co-producer Shep Pettibone, who had made his name as a club DJ and dance remixer, craft some alluring bad-girl grooves (catch the ocean-deep bass on "Waiting") while still managing to keep things catchy. "Deeper And Deeper" is celebratory dance-pop (with ...
| | Madonna Bedtime Story (1995) 7 versions
Interview Disc Vol. 2 music CDs
$7.49 "Bedtime Story," the third single from Madonna's Bedtime Stories album, holds the distinction of being her first U.S. single since her debut, "Everybody," to fail to crack the U.S. Top 40 (the song peaked at 42). It was the follow-up to her immensely popular hit "Take a Bow," and also one of her most adventurous and least-commercial singles. The song was co-written by alterna-goddess Bjork, and, with its ...
| | Cassandra Wilson Blue Light 'Til Dawn CD (1993)
Interview Disc Vol. 2 songs
$8.85 BLUE LIGHT 'TIL DAWN was nominated for Best Jazz Vocal Performance in the 37th Annual Grammy Awards.
Possessed with both a spirit of innovation and a sultry, textured voice that lends itself to any number of styles, Cassandra Wilson was one of the most exciting vocal talents to gain prominence in the 1990s, and her '93 Blue Note debut, BLUE LIGHT 'TIL DAWN, may be her finest moment. Though Wilson's earliest albums specialized in the jazz fusion characteristic of the M-Base collective (a Brooklyn-based group of musicians to which she belonged), BLUE LIGHT finds her bringing her skills to a set of acoustic standards and covers with a rootsy, blues-based feel.
The choice of material is eclectic, with ...
| | Mana En Vivo CDs (1995)
Interview Disc Vol. 2 album
$13.85 Recorded live in August and September, 1994. Includes liner notes by Mana.
All songs written or co-written by Fher and/or Alex except "El Rey" (Jose Alfredo Jimenez).
In terms of live albums, Maná's En Vivo is exemplary. It's filled with hits, offers crystalline sound quality, and boasts remarkable band-audience rapport, highlighted by the numerous moments when the crowd sings along to the better-known songs. Fher Olvera is a captivating frontman, and it's him in particular who engages this lively crowd most. The band as a whole deserves mention too, though. It not only plays its many hits well, but it often gives the songs new life, extending them and letting them go on until they're truly finished. And regarding those hits, some of Maná's most beloved are here, including "De Pies a Cabeza," "Oye Mi Amor," "Rayando el Sol," "Como Te Deseo," and an acoustic performance of the absolutely beautiful "Vivir ...
| | No Doubt Return Of Saturn CD (2000) (Import) Bonus Tracks; England; Argentina
Interview Disc Vol. 2 CD music
$16.75 RETURN OF SATURN was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
There's an extra song, "Big Distraction," on the Australian release of this album.
Pop-ska rockers No Doubt make their long-awaited return with the follow-up to the hugely successful TRAGIC KINGDOM. The band's fiery dynamic remains intact as vocalist Gwen Stefani's penchant for emotionally charged tales of heartbreak drive the single "Ex-Girlfriend," "Simple Kind Of Life" and "Bath Water." In "The Magic's In The Makeup," Stefani's lyrics speak of yearning to be appreciated beyond surface beauty for who she really is while the band reaches for a thicker ...
