EL PADRINO was nominated for the 2000 Billboard Latin Music Award for Rap Album of the Year.
Fulanito's El Padrino is an intriguing fusion of rap and Latin dance music played on live instruments, which gives it a much more organic sound than the synths and drum machines which often dominate Latin club music. Not only that, but when the rap vocals are featured, they flow along with the distinctly Latin rhythms, rather than appropriating a more traditional funk-based approach. The end result is extremely well done and makes one hungry for more. ~ Steve Huey
EL PADRINO was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Merengue Album.

What do you get when a telenovela (Latino soap opera) star blends old-school vallenato and other traditional Colombian music with a little pop and some edgy rock & roll? A vibrant, earthy music that makes the heart warm with gladness and the impossibility of remaining seated. Sung like little narratives, these are image-rich songs of love, passion, celebration, and a staying affection for one's land of origin.
The title track praises the natural beauties of Vives' rural home to the welcome sounds of his usual accordion player, Egidio Cuadrado. "Fruta Fresca" recalls the urgent passion of his radio hit "Rosa," with fierce, fluid ...

| | Da Band Too Hot For T.V. CD (2003)
El Padrino songs
$9.09 As the story goes, after crafting a platinum-selling boy band with O-Town in their first installment, the MAKING THE BAND people decided to conquer hip-hop, moved the game from network television to MTV, and turned to the able hand of ubiquitous star-maker P. Diddy. MAKING THE BAND 2 proved to be every bit as gripping as the first installment, with another fly-on-the-wall depiction of the conflict and craziness that goes into the formation of a musical act--in this case, a band simply called Da Band (or Bad Boy's Da Band). In addition to coping with their newly televised lives, the six initiates also had to endure the production schedule of the notoriously hard-driving Sean Combs, with the final product being their first album--the energetic TOO HOT FOR T.V.
TOO HOT features vacuum-tight production while the five rappers trade off rhymes--sometimes playful, sometimes cautionary, sometimes inspirational, sometimes pure thug storytelling (as in the swinging call-and-response of "Tonight"). When sixth member Sara Stokes' sweet, soulful vocals truly kick in, Da Band is at its finest, particularly on "Do You Know" where she drops in unpredictably amidst the rappers' cries of prowess over a sweet Wyclef Jean guitar riff. Despite unimaginable pressure, ...
