One look at Mint Condition's list of "bands that inspired us" says all you need to know about this talented outfit: Earth Wind & Fire, Parliament-Funkadelic, Led Zeppelin...uhh, Led Zeppelin? Well, perhaps in spirit, but there's not much evidence of Zep here. No, the orientation is funk, plain and simple: mostly slow-tempo, mostly ballads, with a few straight-up dance-floor jams thrown in. In other words, you may shake your butt, but you will shake it sloooowly. There are jazz inflections throughout, as well as some beautiful ballads (see the fine slow jam "You Don't Have to Hurt No More").
Most of all, though, these guys can flat out play--and flat out sing. The musicianship on Mint Condition's third album is first-rate throughout, and the ambitious, multi-layered vocal arrangements are a true aural pleasure. Lead vocalist Stokley seems to have molded his style as a combination of current romantic balladeers. This is a lush record, a well-realized, well-crafted example of modern soul music (with a little metal-like heaviness thrown in for good measure). Highly recommended.
Recorded at Flyte Tyme Studios, Edina, Minnesota and Tricord Studios, Edin Prairie, Minnesota.
Audio Mixer: Charles "Prince Charles" Alexander .

Mint Condition Definition Of A Band Songs Definition Of A Band Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) YOUR MISSING OUT!!! If you LOVE real live honest to god music, I do mean LIVE music, with actual instruments, this is a must have in your CD collection. I have been a fan since day one, but I must say this CD is their best work. Kudos to the boys. Submitted by afterhoursmagazine (Los Angeles, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The mint factory project! Yo, let me tell you all, if you like "Definition of a Band" cd, you ain't heard nuthin until you've heard the "welcome to the mint factory" project. Now that's a cd that you've got to have in your collection. There's not a weak song on this project and let me tell you I'm an artist myself and I used to be in a group and we used to listen to this cd on the road constantly and let me tell you that was over ten years ago and I just purchased that cd again, cause I couldn't find it anywhere in the stores, so I had to order it and over ten years later it still sounds just as good and up to date as it did back then. I just loved it when I recieved my cd in the mail and I just went nuts listening to it again. Go get this cd. I think it's the best cd that they have ever done.

Mint Condition Tears it Up!! Nornmally when most people buy CDs there are a few songs, 4 or maybe 5 that they like out of the 12-18. But on Mint Condition's "Definition of a Band" all of the songs are the bomb. I especially like "Sometimes" and "Ain't Hookin' me up Enough". I was first exposed fully to MC by a friend, and when she had this CD, I knew I had to buy it. If you like Soul, R&B, Jazz, or a combination of the above, Mint Condition's definitely for you! | | Johnny Gill Let's Get The Mood Right CD (1996)
Definition Of A Band CD music
$7.05 Able to leap flawlessly from one vocal register to the next, Johnny Gill is his generation's Teddy Pendergrass. His sultry music evokes the soul that dominated R&B radio in the 1970s, and it returns a sense of maturity to the genre. Gill added a near-gospel flavor to HOME AGAIN, the reunion album by his old band, New Edition, and LET'S GET THE MOOD RIGHT, which arrived in stores less than a month later, finds him mastering the simple love song.
There are old-school soul touches all over Gill's romantic crooning on this one. "Touch" is based on the O'Jays' "Cry Together," from which it heavily samples, and Gill ends up inhabiting the O'Jays' old turf. On "Simply Say I Love U," he duets with his friend Stevie Wonder. ...
