DJ-KICKS is a continuous, in-the-mix recording by Kruder & Dorfmeister. Unknown Contributor Role: Alex Peace. Though it's a close race, Kruder & Dorfmeister make for better DJs than producers, as witnessed by their volume in the DJ-Kicks series. Beginning with downbeat trip-hop including Herbaliser, Statik Sound System, and Thievery Corporation, Kruder & Dorfmeister flow through jazzy drum'n'bass (with Aquasky and JMJ & Flytronix) and techno (with Hardfloor and Showroom Recordings). K&D sound much more relaxed and involved than on their own G-Stoned EP. ~ John Bush
K&D continue their relaxed & chilled sound they've perfected. Beginning with downbeat trip-hop including Herbaliser, Statik Sound System and Thievery Corporation, Kruder & Dorfmeister flow through jazzy drum'n'bass (with Aquasky and JMJ & Flytronix) and techno (with Hardfloor and Showroom Recordings).Alternative Press (10/00, p.120) - Included in AP's "10 Essential DJ-Mix Albums" - "...This is perfect stoned head-nodding music for late nights and early-morning come-downs." Option (11-12/96, p.115) - "...Suddenly the ground drops out from beneath your expectations, and your ears start to bug on Thievery Corporation's understated soul, K&D's own trip-hop vibe, Beanfield's funky workout, Rockers Hi-Fi's acoustic EU-beat and Shantel's diggedy dub jazz..." DJ Kicks
$14.75 Jessamine: Rex Ritter (vocals, guitar); Dawn Smithson (vocals, bass); Andy Brown (keyboards); Michael Faeth (drums, cymbals). Additional personnel: Tari Nelson-Zagar (strings). Recorded between October 1995 and February 1996. Personnel: Rex Ritter (vocals, guitar); Tari Nelson-Zagar (strings); Andy Brown (keyboards); Michael Faeth (drums, cymbals). Audio Mixer: Stuart Hallerman. Recording information: Avast (10/1995-02/1996); Basement (10/1995-02/1996). Illustrator: Joe Walker. Jessamine's second full album continued developing the spooked-out space/Krautrock inspirations of the band's debut, resulting in an attractive and most captivating trip. Cleverly and creatively, Jessamine have clear influences without obviously trying to exactly clone any of them -- motorik pace meets with tape-loop cutups, psych zoned-and-stoned flow hits up against almost goth-heavy basslines. Compared to, say, ...

DJ Kicks
$9.59 The Dovells: Jerry Summers, Len Barry, Mike Dennis, Arnie Satin, Danny Brooks (vocals). Personnel: Jerry Summers (tenor); Arnie Satin (baritone); Jim Meeley (bass voice); Dave Appell, Joe Sgro, Joe Renzetti (guitar); Dan Dailey (saxophone, percussion); Georgie Young & the Rockin 'Bocs, Buddy Savitt (saxophone); Joe Sher, Bobby Gregg (drums); Vivian Dix (background vocals). Liner Note Author: Jeff Tamarkin. Recording information: Bell Sound, New York, NY (02/1961-06/1965); Cameo Parkway Studio, Philadelphia, PA (02/1961-06/1965); Reco-Art Sound Recording, Philadelphia, PA (02/1961-06/1965); RPL Studios, Camden, NJ (02/1961-06/1965). Arrangers: Dave Appell; Jimmy Wisner. The Dovells are known for their two early-'60s rock & roll classics "Bristol Stomp" and "You Can't Sit Down." The 2005 collection The Best of the Dovells 1961-1965 includes these two gems plus plenty more hot rockers that will have you out of your seat and stomping your feet. The Dovells' strong points are their unflagging energy and the yelping teenage vocals of Len Barry, and a typical song is made up of pounding drums, a honking sax, and lyrics about a new dance craze or a teenage hottie that Barry hollers and howls about while the band harmonizes raucously in the background. Add handclaps, foot stomps, and crowd noise and what you have for most of the disc is an instant party. While the two hits are the best by far, the rest, like "Mope-Itty Mope," "Hey Beautiful," "Betty in Bermudas," "Kissin' in the Kitchen," and "Foot Stompin'," are a blast of carefree fun that never grows old. This is the first legit Dovells collection to be released on CD and it should thrill fans of early-'60s rock & roll. The only ...
