Guitarist Bill Connors has forged a successful career by mixing light, pop-oriented fusion cuts with more ambitious works that showcase his considerable solo abilities and compositional skills. This was a trio date with Connors (who doubled as producer) playing in an introspective vein, showing his funk and rock side, and then playing with more imagination and style. The playing time was quite short (35 minutes-plus), but there was enough of Connors' guitar work presented to satisfy his fans and fusion/pop/light jazz followers. ~ Ron Wynn

$33.59 After jumping out of the starting block with enviable speed and agility, and to widespread critical acclaim, Brazilian death metal titans Krisiun have suffered some tough setbacks at the hands of the same press as it gradually lost interest in the band's assault of almost unparalleled but increasingly one-dimensional fury. It was into this ongoing state of uncertainty that the band ...
| | Jon Michael Ogletree Silent Night CD (2003)
Double Up
$17.09 Jon Michael Ogletree is a true lover of music. At an early age, Jon Michael began climbing up on the piano bench in his living room and sounding out chords. His love of music continued to grow when he was enrolled in the Samford University Music Preparatory program. He continued his lessons there from the age of four until the age of thirteen. Some might suggest that this is not a unique ability or characteristic. There are many lovers of music who create beautiful music in the world today. However, what makes Jon Michael's music a special gift is the fact that Jon Michael is a dwarf. While he stands only three feet eight inches tall, his personality and his music easily fill a room.Jon ...
| | Bonerama Bringin It Home CD (2007)
Double Up
$13.69 When Bonerama struts onstage with its four-trombone frontline, you can guess itâs not quite like any rock ânâ roll band youâve seen. When they tear into some vintage New Orleans funk, thereâs no questioning from which city these guys hail. And when those âbones start ripping into Hendrix and Led Zeppelin licks, all stylistic bets are off. Even in a city that doesnât play by the rules, New Orleansâ Bonerama is something different. Theyâre not a traditional brass band, but theyâve got brass to spareâeven with no trumpets or saxes in sight. They can evoke vintage funk, classic rock and free improvisation in the same set; maybe even the same song. Bonerama has been repeatedly recognized by Rolling Stone, hailed as âthe ultimate in brass ballsâ (2005) and praised for their ââŠcrushing ensemble riffing, human-feedback shrieks and wah-wah growlsâ (2007). Bonerama carries the brass-band concept to places unknown; what other brass band could snag an honor for âBest Rock Bandâ (Big Easy Awards 2007)? As cofounder Mark Mullins puts it, âWe thought we could expand what a New Orleans brass band could do. Bands like Dirty Dozen started the âanything goesâ concept, bringing in the guitars and the drumkit and using the sousaphone like a bass guitar. We thought we could push things a little further.â New Orleansâ fertile club scene was directly responsible for Bonerama getting together. Trombonists Mullins and Craig Klein were both members of Harry Connickâs band, where theyâd been since 1990. Both were looking to supplement this gig with something a little less structured. âHarry sets the bar pretty high, and you have to play it the same way every night for everyone to follow.â The big chance came in the summer of â98, when Mullins had a weekly residency at Tipitinaâs in the French Quarter. The club was then turning weekly slots over to some of the cityâs favorite musicians, including Allen Toussaint and Cyril Neville; Mullins got charge of Wednesdays. Word got out one week that he and Klein were staging their trombone super-session and everybody they knew wanted to get involved. âIt seemed that half the trombone players in town showed up,â Klein recalls. âAt the end of the night we had them all onstage, maybe fifteen trombones at once. It sounded like a freight train; a big wall of sound coming right at you.â The players in the lineup all add to Boneramaâs diverse blend: Rick Trolsen was one of the first to answer the call for trombonists at Tipitinaâs. A New Jersey native who grew up on hippie communes, he first saw New Orleans when the Navy shipped him there; he soon resolved to get out of the Navy and into music full-time. New Orleans native Steve Suter is a classically-trained player and a former member ...
| | Society Of Imaginary Friends Sadness Is A Bridge To Love CD (2008)
Double Up
$16.39 "Sadness is a Bridge to Love is the long awaited debut album by the extraordinary Society of Imaginary Friends (SOIF). Simultaneously described as 'avant folk' and 'advanced indie-pop', this debut is 'the work of a mighty trio of wicked talents: Louise Kleboe, Alfie Thomas and Chris Brierley. Louise's opera-based vocals just have to be heard to be believed. Her singing is utterly singular; one of the most beautiful voices you will ever experience. Alfie Thomas' rabid accordion workouts add extreme vitality and ...
