Citizen Kane Soundtrack
$20.35 THE TWILIGHT ZONE contains complete scores for the episodes "Where Is Everybody", "Eye Of The Beholder", "The Lonely", " Walking Distance", "Little Girl Lost", "Living Doll", and "Ninety Years Without Slumbering".
Original scores composed by Bernard Herrmann. Conducted by Joel McNeely.
One is grateful for the very notion of making a new recording of seven of Bernard Herrmann's scores for the Twilight Zone series from the early 1960s -- as recently as ten or even five years ago, anyone suggesting such an idea to most record labels would have been shown the door in a less-than-polite manner, but Herrmann's music seems to sell, and the continuing interest in The Twilight Zone doesn't hurt. Of the all the music here, Herrmann's score for the episode "Walking Distance" holds up the best, a sweetly elegiac ode to passing youth and passing time that stands on its own. Much of the rest, although often very interesting, is simply not that good as music -- Herrmann did as bidden and created very effective, surprising, even other-worldly scores for "Little Girl Lost" and "Living Doll," using instruments such as harps, guitars, ...
| | Marnie CD (2000) (Import) Original Soundtrack; Germany
Citizen Kane Soundtrack
$16.59 One of Bernard Herrmann's lesser-known scores for Alfred Hitchcock -- mostly by virtue of the fact that the movie for which it was written was a box office failure -- Marnie deserves a fair hearing as music, either in the original movie score conducted by the composer on this CD, or in the 1990s re-recording issued by Varese. The sound on this CD is a bit more compressed than that of the modern re-recording, but the disc still reveals a rich tonal ...
| | Day The Earth Stood Still CD (1993) Remastered
Citizen Kane Soundtrack
$14.39 THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL is one of Bernard Herrmann's most inventive soundtracks. This is attributable, largely, to the unusual instrumentation, which includes a small orchestra of Theremins, trumpets, trombones, tubas, reed organ, Hammond Organs, pianos, percussionists, and electrically amplified violin, cello, and bass. Naturally, the unusual ensemble, featuring ...

Citizen Kane Soundtrack
$14.15 An early film score by British composer David Arnold (INDEPENDENCE DAY, TOMORROW NEVER DIES), STARGATE is widely considered to be one of his finest. Taking cues from, but never mimicking, classic sci-fi music (John Williams's STAR WARS work, Jerry Goldsmith's STAR TREK theme), this 1994 soundtrack features bold orchestral work that echoes the movie's fantastical events, as evinced on the stately "Stargate Overture," the wondrous "The ...

$23.75 Featuring Ken Stringfellow (of the Posies and Big Star), the Orange Humble Band specializes in eclectic alternative pop, as revealed on songs such as "It Doesn't Matter," "Katie Said So," and "Hello Emptiness."
In a perfect world, everyone would be grooving to Assorted Creams by the Orange Humble Band. As it is, this is not to be, but if you get a chance to pick up this disc you won't be disappointed. Assorted Creams is the handiwork of one Darryl ...

Ignored and undervalued, he is nonetheless a knight in shining overalls taking care of the business no-one else wants to know about with stoic professionalism laced with laconic wit. He is part-philosopher, part-comedian and all heart, doing his best to balance the competing tensions of fatherhood, family and sewage. It's a wryly ...
