| | Eric Burdon Absolutely The Best CD Eric Burdon Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST conatins newly recorded versions of Eric Burdon & The Animals' greatest hits.
On more than one occasion, Eric Burdon has gone into the studio and re-recorded the hit singles which made him famous in the '60s. This 1998 collection is one of those sets of re-recordings. So if you're looking for the (invariably superior) original versions of classics like "House of the Rising Sun," "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" or "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," be forewarned that you'll have to look elsewhere.
That said, Burdon sounds fine here, and the ravages of time have only added more character to his already-raspy voice. The arrangements tend to resist updating, and the playing is perfectly acceptable. Caveat emptor, but this isn't anywhere near as embarrassing as some releases of this nature.

Absolutely The Best Music Absolutely The Best Music Review Average Rating: (3.3 out of 5 stars) Respectful Covers, Faithful to the Originals This album gets a bum rap all the time because everybody thinks they're buying The Animals and the original versions. That's a marketing problem with the title and packaging. Musically, this is Burdon in the late 1990s doing very, very nice covers of the hits that he and his compatriots made famous over the years, so it truly is "Absolutely The Best" as far as song SELECTION goes. The covers are extremely faithful in their renditions to the originals, but any Animals fan will quickly hear the variances. What amazes me most is that the un-named players on this CD are able to mimic so well (not duplicate)the sounds of the originals, whether it's War, the Briggs-Burdon era, or the Price-Burdon era. I like this album, and if you take it for what it is, a respectful tip-o'the-hat to Burdon's career, you will, too. "Eric Is Here" is one of my favorite albums, so to have a new cover of Help Me Girl, from that album, on this one thirty-odd years later, is, to me, super neat. There are many songs on here that fall into that category. The are only three reasons why I don't give this album a five star rating. 1) The songs are covers, not "live" or brand new songs. 2) The players aren't credited, which annoys me no end. 3) The picture on the front does not represent the era in which Burdon recorded them, the late '90s, another part of the marketing ploy, which, with the title and the rest of the packaging, loses it a star. That still leaves four, however, so if you like Burdon, you'll enjoy this CD. If you're looking for Burdon with the Animals, other CDs are recommended. This is a Burdon solo album, and it's good. BE VERY, VERY, CAREFUL Many of the old classics have been caught up in ownership or rights disputes, and what you see may not be what you get . If you can't give it a try, don't buy! Submitted by Old Ron who knows (P.C. FLA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 2 found this helpful.
A Great Trip to the Past I am really enjoying this CD! It reminds me of "the good old days" and the songs activate a bunch of memories. These songs are still great...still alive after all these years. I'm glad I bought it. Submitted by MChrisRd49 (New London, CT) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Absolutely The Best album
$10.65 When David Geffen convinced Richie Furay, Chris Hillman, and J.D. Souther to join forces to form a country-rock supergroup, it seemed like an inspired suggestion. Crosby, Stills & Nash's folk-rock had scored big with a similar idea, while bands such as the Eagles, who recorded for Geffen's Asylum Records, had made some waves commercially in recent years. But despite high expectations along with the history of their members, the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band's 1974 eponymous debut never quite lived up to its promise. The trio, along with steel guitarist Al Perkins, drummer Jim Gordon, and Paul Harris on piano, delivers a collection of ten pleasant, if overall unremarkable tunes in the singer/songwriter, country-rock vein. There are glimmers of past glories by each, but only Furay really connects solidly. His "Fallin' in Love," which opens the record, ...
| | Very Best Of Chicago: Only The Beginning CDs (2002)
Absolutely The Best CD music
$19.79 Chicago commemorates 35 years of playing together with the career-spanning 2-CD anthology ONLY THE BEGINNING. This Windy City septet started out as one of the few '60s groups aside from Blood, Sweat & Tears and The Electric Flag to fuse a full horn section with a rock band. Chicago's early hits included more aggressive fare like "25 Or 6 To 4," "Beginnings," and a scorching cover of The Spencer ...

| | Neil Young Hawks & Doves CD (1980) Remastered
Absolutely The Best songs
$6.39 All tracks have been digitally remastered using HDCD technology.
Following up the energetic, one-two punch of RUST NEVER SLEEPS and LIVE RUST, Neil Young takes a more understated route with 1980's HAWKS & DOVES. On rustic tracks such as "Little Wing" and "The Old Homestead" (both written in the mid-'70s), Young revisits his HARVEST era with a spare sound that relies heavily on his distinctive voice and acoustic guitar. As the album progresses, its scope widens both musically and lyrically; "Stayin' Power" is a jaunty, piano-driven tune about the power of love, while "Comin' Apart at Every ...
| | Stephen Stills Turnin' Back The Pages CD (2003) Bonus Tracks
Absolutely The Best album
$17.75 Recorded between 1968 & 1978. Includes liner notes by Glenn A. Baker.
Australian reissue label Raven fills in a hole in Stephen Stills' catalog by assembling the compilation Turnin' Back the Pages, which surveys Stills' three-LP stint on Columbia Records, 1976-1978. The first two of Stills' Columbia albums, Stills and Illegal Stills, have been issued on CD, but the third, Thoroughfare Gap, has not, so the selections from that disc are making their digital debut here. The 78-plus-minute CD contains more than half of Stills' Columbia output, seven of ten tracks from Stills, eight of ten from Illegal Stills, and five of 12 from Thoroughfare Gap. Annotator Glenn A. Baker (who conceived and compiled the collection) points out that Stills' solo recording career at the time was damaged by a confusing glut of product: in 1975, Stills had to compete with Stills' Live album, issued by Stills' previous label, Atlantic; in 1976, Illegal Stills ...
