After the dissolution of the Louvin Brothers in 1963, Ira Louvin went on to record two albums for Capitol Records. The sum of these recordings have been combined on The Complete Recordings of Ira Louvin, which showcases the smooth traditional country stylings of the older, less volatile brother. This collection is a fair sample of the country-pop style popular in the late '50s and early '60s through Louvin's familiar voice, with a smattering of old-time religion and Appalachian yodeling. Unfortunately, these last recordings fail to display any of the excellent mandolin picking that Louvin exhibited in the previous decades and really lacks the spark and bittersweet charm of the music performed with brother Charlie. ~ Zac Johnson

This 15 cut CD retrospect (3 previously unreleased) features his best and worst as a solo. Bottom of The Bottle, Life Is Too Short, These Two Eyes, Something Has Got To Give, You're Looking For An Angel, Right Side of The Road and This Is The Door are among the best. Yodel, Sweet Molly is probably his worst. All told, though, country music would be far less without this album. If you like REAL C&W, this one's for you. Complete Recordings Of Ira Louvin songs
$12.79 Exploding into the stale vacuum of music in 1976 were four lads from the working-class burg known as Queens, New York: The Ramones! Projecting non-image as image, the Ramones invented worlds with every new song, populating their fantasies with characters like Sheena The Punk Rocker and Suzy The Headbanger. They were successful simply because they knew how to write great rock & roll--all energy, swagger and bravado; no solos, no chops, and no classical themes ...
| | Cry Baby CD (1990) Original Soundtrack
Complete Recordings Of Ira Louvin album
$6.49 John Waters' Cry-Baby goes hand in hand with Hairspray, and is a musical film that will probably appeal more to Waters' fans than fans of musical cinema. There is nothing original or exciting about the music on the soundtrack, as energetic as it is, and its bizarre nature is probably due to the scenes from the film rather than its own oddities. Waters describes it as "music that proved kids knew how to be bad before sex, drugs, and rock & roll," yet there seems to be little separation between those attributes and the concoction ...

| | Buddy Ebsen Says Howdy CD (1965)
Complete Recordings Of Ira Louvin CD music
$12.05 Buddy Ebsen played the role of "Uncle Jed" on THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES.
Of course Buddy Ebsen is best-known for his role as Jed Clampett on the Beverly Hillbillies television program, which ran for nine seasons on the CBS-TV network beginning in September of 1962. Although Says Howdy (1965) was the only long-player that Ebsen released, the veteran stage and screen actor had been an ASCAP staff songwriter in the late 1940s and early 1950s prior to becoming a household name in the Fess Parker-led cast of Walt Disney's Davy Crockett. While the songs that Ebsen chose for the project are chock full of classic country music standards, the syrupy sweet arrangements and prominent backing vocal chorales sadly date the material, and ultimately denigrate Ebsen's performance -- not that he is Sinatra, or even trying to be. With lyrics such as those featured in the opener -- "Howdy, howdy/looks like it might get cloudy/But come right in/The coffee pot is hot" -- no one will mistake him for "ol' blue eyes." ...
