Tiny Hill & His Orchestra 1944 CD music
$8.25 The six songs on Call & Response's Tiger Teeth EP were cut as demos for Emperor Norton in 2002. The group never got a response from the label and when their contract with them ran out, the band owned the masters. By then they had moved on to the more pastoral and mellow sounds of 2004's Winds Take No Shape and the recordings were anachronistic. In 2004 Badman decided the songs should be given an airing and fans of the band should be overjoyed. The songs are more mature and organic sounding than the group's first album but they retain much of the bounce that had disappeared by the time of Winds. Songs like "Tiger Teeth," "Little Noises" and "Connection" bubble and groove as well as anything on the debut. Only the introspective "Curves in a Straight Line" shows any indication of the direction the band would be taking. Although the songs sound slightly unfinished at times, Tiger Teeth is an important and enjoyable release from one of the most enjoyable indie pop bands around. ~ Tim Sendra
In 2001 Call and Response self-titled debut album was released on Emperor Norton Records. It gained international recognition and received positive reviews from National Public Radio and the Washington Post. Reviewers drew comparisons to the Sea and Cake, Heart, the Jackson 5, and Stereolab. The music they compose is filled with rhythm, harmony, and warmth. Elements of classic pop, spacey jazz, film soundtracks, folk and soul music are only some of the musical inspirations drawn upon by the group.Call and Response released their new full-length album Winds take no shape in spring of 2004. The album has been met with high praise. Uncut called it "a magnificent surprise" and Jane magazine said "the uncorny indie-rock answer to Sade, moody wake-and-bake vibes." With this record, the band innovated a sound that was impressionistic, mystical, and beautiful. It shows a great deal of growth from the "twee pop" sound found on their previous album. In November of 2004, we get to take a step back to experience a time when Call and Response were in between the twee sound of their debut and the matured radiance of their recent full length. Tiger Teeth was recorded over a period of 6 months in 2002. Most of the tracks were recorded on Emperor Norton's dime - as demos for another record with them. This was a confusing time for Emperor Norton (now acquired by Ryko)- and these tracks were left floating around for a while with a big question mark on both sides- wondering where they belong. After time passed, without ...

$18.99 "Stone's Throw is an impressive debut recording from a pianist and composer of considerable talent. Noriega's tunes crackle with individuality, making it clear that his ambitions reside in innovation not imitation.Introspective at times, energetic and boundary-stretching at others, these tunes seamlessly blend jazz and modern classical influences, expertly rendered by Noriega and his trio. Ranks with the best jazz CDs of the year so far. Victor Noriega is a player to watch."--Gordon ToddJazz Music DirectorKBCS 91. 3 FM/Seattle------CD REVIEW: Victor Noriega's Stone's ThrowArticle by Todd MatthewsOne of my favorite jazz combinations is the piano-bass-drum trio. True, there is nothing quite like a good trumpet player or saxophonist to really make a song soar. But this particular ...
