| | Bobby Hackett Live At The Roosevelt Grill Vol. 3 CDs (1977)
Ain't Misbehavin
$15.09 Digitally remastered by Jon Bates (Downtown Sound & Mix Masters).
In 1977 -- the year following Bobby Hackett's death at the age of 61 -- producer Hank O'Neal's Chiaroscuro label released a third album of material from Hackett's triumphant 1970 engagement at the Roosevelt Grill in New York. Titled Bobby Hackett Featuring Vic Dickenson at the Roosevelt Grill, the LP was reissued in 1999 as the CD Live at the Roosevelt Grill, Vol. 3. This CD contains everything that was on the original LP, along with four previously unreleased bonus tracks: "Ain't Misbehavin'," "Muskrat Ramble," "Someday Sweetheart," and "I Ain't Gonna Give Nobody None o' This Jelly Roll." O'Neal had taped Hackett's Roosevelt performances extensively, so there was an abundance of material in the vaults. And it's a good thing that O'Neal had the wisdom to do so much taping, for the quintet that Hackett led at the Roosevelt was definitely among the finest groups he ever had. Joined ...
| | Albert Ammons Boogie Woogie Stomp CD (1998)
Ain't Misbehavin
$10.35 BOOGIE WOOGIE STOMP contains 14 songs from a 1939 Chicago radio broadcast and four more from a 1938 session.
Recorded in 1938 & 1939. Includes liner notes by Christopher I. Page and Axel Zwingenberger.
BOOGIE WOOGIE STOMP, a collection of rare radio broadcasts by Ammons, Meade Lux Lewis, and Pete Johnson, reveals how the spirit of the boogie woogie style became the basis for all popular music that followed. Ammons' rollicking and rolling on the keys foretells the coming of be-bop, R&B, and rock & roll all at once. Ammons, Lewis, and Johnson cut the majority of these sides at the Hotel Sherman in Chicago in 1939. What flowed forth was a tumult of raucous swing-part ragtime and part old-fashioned blues-that was unlike any other music.

| | Milt Hinton Here Swings The Judge CD (1975)
Ain't Misbehavin
$12.19 Milt Hinton was probably the most recorded bassist in the history of music as a whole, but relatively few recordings were released under his own name. This LP was his first as a leader (if you don't count an earlier duo LP with Jo Jones) and it consists of private recordings that Hinton made with tenor saxophone great Ben Webster prior to Webster's departure for Europe in 1964; the remaining tracks come from a Harry Lim-produced studio session featuring Budd Johnson, Frank Wess, Jon Faddis, John Bunch, and Jo Jones. Although the sessions by Hinton and Webster are informal in nature, they are very rewarding. Their duo performance of "Sophisticated Lady" takes on a new degree of subtlety compared to Webster's better-known recordings of this masterpiece by Duke Ellington. Their take of "All the Things You Are" picks up the pace quite a bit, featuring some masterful playing by both men. Stories about Webster's affinity for playing stride piano after hours are widespread, but the two tracks on this LP that feature ...

Ain't Misbehavin
$5.95 Digitally remastered by Tom Ruff (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
All tracks have been digitally remastered using GAIN 2 technology.
Guitarist Jim Hall is the sort of musician who displays such technical expertise, imaginative conception, and elegance of line and phrase that almost any recording of his is worth hearing. Still, CONCIERTO ranks among the best albums of his superb catalogue. For starters, the personnel here is a jazz ...
| | John Coltrane Meditations CD (1965)
Ain't Misbehavin
$12.45 Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by Erick Labson (MCA Music Media Studios).
1965 was a turning point in the life of John Coltrane. It was at this point that he crossed the line into the free jazz arena that he had been approaching since the early '60s. Besides his landmark ASCENSION, no better album illustrates this than the awe-inspiring MEDITATIONS. Coltrane's regular quartet with McCoy Tyner (piano), Jimmy Garrison (bass) and Elvin Jones (drums) is ...
| | Bill Heid Wet Streets CD (1999)
Ain't Misbehavin
$14.65 Of the three organ combo CD's Heid has recently released he considers this his best. It's different in that he employs two saxophonists, Scott Peterson and Russ Miller. They're excellent foils, for each other and the leader. Add drummer Randy Gelespie, an uncrowned king of the kit, and you have a recording unique unto itself, sporting an ultimately provocative approach beyond that of any other B-3 date you may have ever heard.
On this project Heid also sounds out-of-body, even more animated. His approach is more as a space filler, comping and urging his front liners with pungent, stinging lines that swell and expand. In a more orchestral fashion, he supplies the foundation to this rich, meaty stew. All of the eleven compositions are written by Heid, and they're far from typical chitlin laced ...

$11.99 Yann-Gael Poncet started learning to play the violin very early. He was soon seduced by the post jazz improvization movement that was going on in France over the 90's and collaborated to many projects and recordings. It was around 2000 that he began to write songs, inspired by the strength he found in Gainsbourg or Nougaro's innovative works. He then left for India to learn what is called Carnatic Singing with Master Vittal Ramamurthy, and then went on discovering new sounds while travelling to the US, Brazil or Canada with a puppet theatre troup (Foreign Landscapes) in which he would improvize on the violin. When he was back in France in 2003, ...
