1966's CHILDREN OF THE MORNING was the final release by the Kingston Trio before they split up. By 1966, the collegiate folk revival that had spawned the group was dead, having split down the middle into introspective folk-rock and gritty blues-rock. The genial, unthreatening folk-pop sound the group had perfected was being expanded by new and more rock-oriented groups like the Lovin' Spoonful and the Turtles. As a result, CHILDREN OF THE MORNING is slightly disjointed and a little faltering at times, but it's also a surprisingly good document of the end of the band. Newest member John Stewart is pushed to the forefront here; most of the album consists of Stewart originals of varying quality. The soft pop influence of his later work--Stewart wrote the massive hit "Daydream Believer"--shows up in full here, especially on the title track and the wistful "When You've Been Away For A Long Time." Somewhat less successfully, the Kingston Trio also essay both "Norwegian Wood" and "A Taste of Honey."
This CD reissue on the Folk Era label also includes four tracks from this album's immediate predecessor, the almost proto-psychedelic pop album SOMETHING ELSE

The most eclectic of Glen Campbell's late-1960s albums, and his first number one LP, 1968's WICHITA LINEMAN runs from the orchestral melodrama of the title track--the signature song of Glen Campbell's entire career, apart from perhaps "Rhinestone Cowboy"--and the follow-up hit "Dreams ...

Children Of The Morning album
$28.19 A comprehensive budget compilation by the dependable JSP label, the five-disc 1927-1934 fully covers the first seven years of the Carter Family's musical career and features recordings that are the basis of the trio's honored place in the country music firmament. The set starts, appropriately enough, with the Carters' six contributions to Ralph Peer's legendary 1927 recording sessions in Bristol, Tennessee, and then chronologically wades through every released side that A.P., Sara, ...

| | Sean Watkins 26 Miles CD (2003)
Children Of The Morning album
$15.05 On his second solo release, Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek further departs from progressive bluegrass to craft a collection of thoughtful and dour acoustic pop. 26 Miles still sparkles with clean, full production and a sense of crossing many genres, but this time Watkins lands a little closer to the likes of Grant Lee Phillips than Alison Brown. From the distinctly indie rock "On Ice" (Death Cab for Cutie comes to mind) to the alt-country rocker "Hiding," 26 Miles never reaches the exuberance of Nickel Creek, but that doesn't seem to be Watkins' goal here -- the album is much more likely to traffic in the wistful and downbeat than the rollicking and bouncy. Sara Watkins' harmony ...

Children Of The Morning music CDs
$7.69 All songs written by George Winston except "Go 'Way From My Window" (traditional), "Brenda's Blues" (John Fahey) and "Theme For A Futuristic Movie" (Michael S. Roth).
George Winston's significant contributions to the genres of new age, ambient, and contemporary instrumental stretch back to 1972. Winston's first album BALLADS & BLUES was released in that year, and while it lacks the cohesive mood of later albums like December, it represents the artist as a serious stylist with a penchant for atmosphere and variety. Winston dabbles in blues and ragtime, as well as his more familiar stately ballads, and his command of the instrument and facility for creating ambiance (enhanced here by the production of guitar legend John Fahey) is immediately appealing.
George Winston's tranquil piano melodies practically defined the ...
