| | Bowery Electric Lushlife CD Bowery Electric Discography of CDs
When Lawrence Chandler and Martha Schwendener first spiked Bowery Electric's gorgeous wash of dream-pop guitars and voices with looped hip-hop beats, the New York-based duo was a few steps ahead of the game. The music world eventually caught up, trip-hop happened, and the combination proffered by 1996's landmark BEAT quickly became commonplace. LUSHLIFE, Bowery Electric's belated follow-up, strikes back with stronger songs and sharper production, bucking the trip-hop trend.
LUSHLIFE's after-dark cityscape incorporates the best atmospheric elements of hip-hop, dub, downtempo, and soundtrack design. Profound basslines burrow beneath velvety string swatches ("Deep Blue," "Lushlife") and organ shimmers, guitars glittering everywhere like motes of stardust. Chandler's programming and production match the sparse, spooky eloquence of the RZA's Wu-Tang work, particularly on "Psalms of Survival," "Saved," and the album finale "Passages." Schwendener's vocals drift dreamily, surveying an unbroken neon skyline of samples, scratches, and breakbeats. The sweet pop snarl of "Freedom Fighter" makes for an ideal single, though the song seems slightly at odds with the album's finely tuned melancholic mood.

Alternative Press (4/00, p.79) - 3 out of 5 - "...lethargic beats and Martha Schwendener's monotone vocals reveal the hidden sensuality at [their] heart....Bowery Electric show us that sometimes the best evolution can be a step back." Magnet (4-5/00, p.67) - "...Undeniably catchy [and] compelling...teeming with a jazz-like vibe....you encounter gritty edginess and impressionistic swoops of cinematic drama - hard-boiled soul for both body and mind that cleanses you with sweetness and grace." CMJ (2/21/00, p.20) - "...expertly weaves bright loops and washes of noise into a menacing low-end rumble, wedding sounds of hope to sounds of vague doom..." | | Joe Roccisano Leave Your Mind Behind CD (1995)
Lushlife album
$6.85 Joe Roccisano was never a huge name in the jazz world, nor was he ever an innovator. He was, however, a hard-swinging saxman who had no problem leading a big band. One of Roccisano's big-band recordings came in 1994 when he did all of the arranging and conducting on Leave Your Mind Behind. There aren't a lot of surprises on this hard bop CD, and the charts are pretty conventional. Still, it's enjoyable and honest. ...

"Jeux De Nains", paru trois ans plus tard en 1986, est le premier jalon d'un parcours sans faute sous son propre nom: ce disque pr‚sente un rock Progressif intimiste bas‚ sur des guitares d‚licates et les cycles des claviers, dans un style proche du premier Steve HACKETT ou de "The Geese And The Ghost" de Anthony PHILLIPS. | | Cogneato, Ian & Bands From Columbia Missouri USA Das Kompilation CD (2006)
Lushlife music CDs
$12.65 19 bands from Columbia MO + Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin from Springfield MO. CoMo got it goin' on.Wide musical net captures talent in Columbia’s watersBy MARY T. NGUYEN of the Tribune’s staffPublished Thursday, October 12, 2006A doctor, a DJ and the host of "Das Karnival" walk into a radio station. The result of the encounter is not a punchline but a project facilitated by Kevin Walsh, the voice of KOPN’s "The Good Life;" Jason Cafer, the doctor and mastermind behind local label Painfully Midwestern; and a man known only as Ian Cogneato, the host of the Columbia Access Television program. The on-air arbitration between three proponents and promoters of local music set the wheels in motion for the creation of "Das Kompilation," a 21-track compilation of songs from several bands that make up Columbia’s current music scene. The disc is a result of six months of gathering songs - researching Columbia’s sound by going to concerts and searching the Internet - and arranging tracks. Cogneato required assistance from close friend and "Das Karnival" producer Chase Thompson, with whom he shares a Clark Kent-Superman relationship - the same vessel for different personalities. After getting permission from bands to include their songs in the mix, Thompson obtained copies of their song files and arranged them on his computer.Thompson acted as a sort of liaison between Cogneato and Cafer, who couldn’t often meet face-to-face."Ian would send him while he was out doing his thing like pimping sandwiches or drinking breast milk," said Cafer. "I think Ian really stayed away because he knew I had a crush on him, and he was intimidated. He’s got one sexy mustache."Cafer paid for studio time to record a Shirrelle C. Limes and the Lemons song exclusively available on "Kompilation." He also paid for mastering, which was done in New Jersey by the same person behind the production of the latest Goo Goo Dolls album. "Whatever that’s worth," Cafer said.More than money, Cafer contributed his own experience in assembling a Columbia compilation. His label Painfully Midwestern is the name behind the Comomusic Anthology, which ...
