SERENDIPITY 18 won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Individual Or Group.
Bob Florence leads the way in the survival of the modern big band. His Limited Edition group is more than just a large ensemble; it is a living, breathing animal with a personality and imagination all its own. As the leader, Florence is the brain of the beast and operates its various limbs--or sections, you might say--with the all the fluidity and strength of any other intelligent being. On SERENDIPITY 18, Florence lets the band loose to run and jump through its paces and exercise its powerful muscles.
As a composer and arranger, Florence is at the peak of his powers here, unleashing with the burning title cut that comes out with all guns firing before shifting in and out of intricate ensemble passages. Stanley Turrentine's grooving "Sugar" is a disc highlight that showcases the band's ability to boogie on a sizzling shuffle. Shifting gears, the gentle "Tres Palabras" is a beautiful feature for Florence's often forgotten piano skills. The grand finale is the massive "3 E-Motions" suite, which features every aspect of the group's many talents. Other highlights are the clarinet feature "Bimbosity" and the inspired ballad "Evelyn."
this multi-talented musician has received 13 Grammy nominations & 2 Emmy awards - here is his fourth Mama release, feat. soaring tempos, complex ensemble passages & astonishing firepower in a big band setting

Serendipity 18 music CDs
$13.15 Tenor saxophonist Mark O'Connor (not to be confused with the veteran violinist, guitarist and mandolin player with the same name) should surprise many jazz fans with his striking debut as a leader. Utilizing a rotating cast of talented musicians in either quintet or quartet settings; the Chicago-based musician's confident and full-bodied sound belies his youth on this post-bop oriented date. Six of the ten selections are his own, especially the challenging, well-named opener ("The Beast") and the free-spirited mixed meter "Mirage." Neither is he a slouch as an interpreter of ballads, which include two works by the matchless team ...

Serendipity 18 CD music
$13.95 It's been nearly four years since Atlanta based, internationally touring singer/songwriter Doria Roberts has released a CD. But, during her recording hiatus, she has seamlessly transformed her early folk leanings into an infectious blend of acoustic based 'afro-hippie' pop/rock on her latest project "Woman Dangerous". She says, "I'm a writer first so my lyrical choices haven't changed much, but I really wanted to expand my sound then somehow distill it. The process started at my live shows two years ago. I was taking some time ...

They valued closely the classics which ranged from Tom Petty to Stevie Wonder. In grade school, I idolized Michael Jackson, a favorite of my mother's from the days of Off The Wall. I developed a strong interest in Jazz and Black History, and a respect for the values of loyalty and compassion. I developed a world view which held all others as equal, but began to see how society allowed my people to rise out of prejudice over generations while others remained opressed. It is out of this that I formed a deep connection to the music of the ...
