Let Me In music CDs
$15.05 A year after releasing the subtle ambient workout Premiere World on Profan, Cologne's Reinhard Voigt again reverts back to his own name for the completely different Im Wandel der Zeit. It's quite easily the most direct and bangin' release of the Kompakt label's first four years, full of noisy ornamentation and buoyantly abrasive rhythms and beats. More than anything, it's a throwback to early-'90s Cologne acid house. Ears more accustomed to the glistening ...

| | Crunk Hits, Vol. 2 CD (2006) Edited
Let Me In music CDs
$15.49 Correcting the big mistake they made last time out, the TVT label seeks out some up-to-the-minute hits for Vol. 2 of their Crunk Hits series and grabs bangers like Lil Jon's "Snap Yo Fingers" and the remix of Pitbull's "Bojangles"; cuts that were still poppin' when the collection landed on the shelves in summer 2006. Bubba Sparxxx's "Ms. New Booty" and Lil Wayne's "Fireman" weren't that old either, and E-40's "Tell Me When to Go" had just made the rounds, although Bay Area residents might be ticked that the totally hyphy track ended up on a crunk collection. Regardless, it would be a shame to say you care about Southern club music and don't have Three 6 Mafia's "Stay Fly," Mike Jones' "Back Then," and the remix of Daddy Yankee's "Gasolina" in your collection. The filler is better than usual and the flow is smooth so ignore the boring cover art and get mostly crunk plus a little hyphy with this satisfying comp. [Crunk Hits, Vol. 2 was also made available in a clean version, with all explicit material removed.] ~ David Jeffries

| | Works Best Served Rare CD (2009)
Let Me In songs
$12.69 The Works are a high energy Rock 'n CholesteRoll unit from Amsterdam, featuring (ex-)members of Frites Modern, The Shining and The Anomalys. "Best Served Rare", released this march on DonkeyPunch Records, marks their debut album.Right from the opening anthem 'The Chandelier' the tone is set. Knocked up girls, knocked out guys, spilled beers and flying barstools; an unapologetic celebration of weekend excess. 'I Wanna Date Your Mom' tackles issues surrounding intergenerational love in the age of the internet. Another stand-out song is 'I Might Have Love Handles, But I Can't Handle Love' which deals with obesity and romance. Along the same lines is 'Chunky Chicks' an exuberant ode to the female form. 'Gung Ho!' on the other hand is a call to arms for bringing back balls, fun and grandeur to rock 'n roll, a genre nowadays plagued by pretentious, shoegazin' metrosexuals playing nervous riffs and sporting confused haircuts. The Works are indeed Gung Ho about rock 'n roll and with an unhealthy dose of humor and hedonism they want you to join in on the fun. Musically it's a spicy sauce with the main ingredients consisting of proto-punk pioneered by The Dictators and The Stooges and irresistible ...
| | Ivy Walls The Elegant Universe CD (2009)
Let Me In album
$12.65 Singer Jeff Yanero's calmly dark and cinematic lyrics hover just above the driving urgency created by guitarist Ryan Varon, bassist The Count, and drummer, Adam Waldon. Atmospheric guitars and saturated melodies conjure memories of Echo and The Bunnymen, The Church, Tears for Fears, Ride, and The Cure.Since the release of their debut album 'Lovers in Hotels', The Ivy Walls have been featured on ...
