| | Big Black Pig Pile CD Big Black Discography of CDs
Recorded live at the Hammersmith Clarendon, London, England during the band's final tour in the summer of 1987.
Recorded live in London in 1987, during the last Big Black tour, PIG PILE opens in the band's typically charming manner with bassist Dave Riley announcing "This song is called 'Dingy Little Back Alley Of A Country'," before the band launches into a punishing 46-minute set. The concert includes material from the band's first EP, LUNGS, all the way up through 1987s SONGS ABOUT FUCKING. The band's confrontational live sound emphasizes crackling, extremely harsh guitar and very brittle drums. In true punk rock style, the treble has been turned up as far as possible.
"Cables"-about slaughterhouses-and "Jordan, Minnesota"-about a pedophilia scandal-both appear in radically sped-up versions. "Kerosene" is introduced as "a song Jerry Lee Lewis wrote before he killed one of his wives," and Steve Albini's vocals are nearly buried beneath heaped shards of guitar shrapnel in "Steelworker." While there is no substitute for actually living through the Big Black live experience, PIG PILE-both on record and in its video form-documents one of the relatively few instances in history when music was actually dangerous.

Pig Pile album
$11.39 THE RICH MAN'S EIGHT TRACK TAPE contains tracks from the ATOMIZER LP, the HEADACHE EP, and the HEARBEAT single.
THE RICH MAN'S EIGHT-TRACK TAPE combines Big Black's debut, ATOMIZER, and a pair of singles. If you are looking for rage and anger in your music, look no further. The opening track, "Jordan, Minnesota," is a narrative based on an alleged child-sex cult in the town of its title--the track contains heavy breathing, a fuzzed-out bass line, and some punishing ...
| | Paul Butterfield Blues Band CD (1965)
Pig Pile CD music
$6.19 The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) heard this and had their lives changed forever. In ...
| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Pig Pile music CDs
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of ...
| | Drive-By Truckers Southern Rock Opera CDs (2001) Digipak
Pig Pile songs
$11.99 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative ...
| | Antony I Am A Bird Now CD (2005)
Pig Pile album
$12.49 Though he probably achieved his greatest mainstream recognition backing up Lou Reed on tour, idiosyncratic songbird Antony is a fully established artiste in his own right. Backed by the Johnsons, as on I AM A BIRD NOW, he crafts delicate ballads that skirt the lines between cabaret, artsong, and pop, with the kind of voice that Stephin Merritt would probably kill for. Antony's unique pipes bring to mind an androgynous Bryan Ferry or a high, quavery summit meeting between Jimmy Scott (another Reed supporter) ...
| | Dredg Catch Without Arms CD (2005)
Pig Pile CD music
$8.49 Early on, critics often described Dredg as a metal group. However, the quartet has since matured into a hard-edged indie-rock ensemble that seeks diversity and refinement in its music. On CATCH WITHOUT ARMS, the band favors ...

| | Steve Forbert Here's Your Pizza CD (1997)
Pig Pile CD music
$13.89 Steve Forbert may have been Alive on Arrival (the title of his 1978 debut), but it took him another 19 years to get around to releasing a live album. He dug into the vaults to do it, waxing a concert he recorded with his band, the Rough Squirrels, in a small Florida club back in 1987. "Yes there's some tape hiss here, some distortion," and Forbert admits in the liner notes, but there are also performances that "more than make up for any technical imperfections." For the most part, that's true, although you do have to wade through a few throwaways to get to the goodies. Don't look here for "Goin' Down to Laurel," or many of Forbert's other best-known tunes; with a couple of exceptions -- most notably a great version of the ...
| | Complete Adventures Of The Style Council CD (1998) Box Set
Pig Pile music CDs
$45.39 The comprehensive five-disc, 90-track box set THE COMPLETE ADVENTURES OF THE STYLE COUNCIL collects all of the U.K. soul-pop duo's 1980s albums (minus the live album HOME AND ABROAD), plus non-LP singles and the unreleased 1989 acid house experiment A NEW DECADE OF MODERNISM, with full lyrics and track-by-track details.
Given the blockbuster success of the Jam's exhaustive box set Direction Reaction Creation, perhaps it was inevitable that Polydor would give the Style Council a similar treatment, but the 1998 release of the five-disc box set The Complete Adventures of the Style Council was still a bit of surprise -- there never was much interest in their catalog following their 1990 disbandment. Fortunately, ...
