Blonde Redhead (Italian twins Simone and Amedeo Pace, and Japanese onetime art student Kazu Makino), met in the Sonic Youth section of New York City to play music devoid of cultural, let alone dimensional, borders. The MELODIE CITRONIQUE EP finds the trio adapting a couple of songs from their 2000 full-length CD MELODY OF CERTAIN DAMAGED LEMONS into new languages, adding a brand new song in Italian to accompany both a cover of French lounge legend Serge Gainsbourg and a remix.
The result is a joyfully incoherent melange. "In Particular" (which becomes "En Particular") is a wandering, disjointed piece of off-kilter pop majesty. The other French representative, the Gainsbourg cover "Slogan," is a perfectly dreamy translation of a dreamy song. "Hated Because of Great Qualities" was already charmingly loopy, and the added syllables of the Italian "Odiata Per Le Sue Virtu" add an even more spellbinding effect. "Chi E E Non E" is a surprisingly simple slice of folk, and the pared-down remix of "For the Damaged" (with the new title "Four Damaged Lemons") offers a fitting end to an album of fitful dreams.
Blonde Redhead: Kazu Makino, Amedeo Pace, Simone Pace.

| | Blonde Redhead In An Expression Of The Inexpressible CD (1998)
Melodie Citronique CD music
$12.25 The musically agile trio Blonde Redhead's combination of the eccentric art rock of 1960s underground cult favorites like the United States Of America with the downtown no-wave-ism of late 1970s bands like the Contortions may do the band no favors in the commerciality stakes. But their second album for the Chicago independent ...

$11.99 No track on this trio's fifth album follows, directly or logically, the shape or style of the track preceding it. And that's ok, as Blonde Redhead's modus operandi is to produce a head-spinning musical melange, amassed from a multiplicity of sources, that will leave you and ...
| | Blonde Redhead CD (1995)
Melodie Citronique songs
$11.45 Recalling the no wave movement of the late '70s, the self-titled debut of New York City's Blonde Redhead is a glorious piece of dense, art-damaged noise, with songs that move from drifting melodicism to raging aural assaults in the course of a few measures. Taking their cues most directly from Sonic Youth (Steve Shelley produced the album), Blonde Redhead revel in noise and create vast sonic landscapes out of which songs naturally emerge. The focus here tends to be on atmospherics, and yet there is never the feeling of utter chaos; instead, the album functions like a work of controlled mayhem, referencing a wide range of musical approaches. The opening track, "I Don't Want U," starts off like jazz-rock, ...

Melodie Citronique CD music
$13.45 Moving from their longtime home at Touch & Go to the renowned 4AD label, NYC art-rockers Blonde Redhead have made telling sonic adjustments, trading in their noisy, abrasive edge for a refined, often orchestral sound. The trio--Kazu Makino and twin brothers Amedeo and Simone Pace--makes the transition clear from the get-go on "Elephant Woman," which features Makino's breathy ...

Melodie Citronique music CDs
$20.09 Patsy Cline turns up here with "Gotta Lot of Rhythm," and one of her Four-Star sides, but other then that I defy anyone other than the most knowledgeable rock & roll scholar to know anything about anyone represented here; its a shame, because there's not a weak track among these 29 (yep, they had trouble filling that 30th spot; a Janis Martin song would've fit in nicely). Judy Layne ("Hard Headed Woman"), Sandy Lee ("Ballin' Keen"), Betty Nickell ("Hot Dog"), Jan Moore ("Play It Cool") et al were mostly serious rockabilly and bluesy rock singers, with an attitude and a way with a song, and all featuring good backing bands. These women were awesome, every one of them, but they were also monsters by the standards of the 1950s. Except for a few more mainstream country-sounding figures like Cline and Joannie King, and the slightly more R&B-oriented Kelly Hart ("Boy Crazy"), each one of these women would've scared the crap out of most guys, forget their parents, so it's no wonder that none of them ever made it in a serious way. Worse yet, none of them were 12 years old like ...

Melodie Citronique music CDs
$18.99 Was it the reaction seven year old Jean Gauthier received after singing âTu Scendi Dalle Stelleâ, in her grandmotherâs kitchen, that launched her love of performing? Perhaps, because at the age of ten, she began singing in her church choir in Central New York. From her high school chorus and drama years, to her performances in college and community theater, Jeanâs love for the arts continued. Her musical career began as the lead singer in the New York based band, Samara. She then worked as a solo act in coffeehouses, clubs, and concerts--her rich contralto serving as a springboard to showcase her unique versatility of style and range. In 1975, Jean moved to Boston, appearing in New England-area coffeehouses, including Maxine Feldmanâs Oasis and the Sword in the Stone. In 1985, while in her last semester at Bostonâs Berklee College of Music, Jean arranged the music for, and performed in Tom Wilson Weinbergâs acclaimed âTen Percent Revueâ. In the â90s, while performing with the womenâs Afro/Brazilian based percussion group, the Batucada Belles, Jean teamed up with fellow percussionist, Laura Ruth Jarrett, to form the musical ...
