Celebrate the New Dark Age EP album Product Description
Celebrate the New Dark Age EP album by Polvo was released May 27, 1994 on the Merge label. Lest anyone think Polvo's previous outing, the relatively cohesive TODAY'S ACTIVE LIFESTYLES, was a sign of streamlining to come, CELEBRATE THE DARK AGE opens with the dizzying "Fractured (Like Chandeliers)," which sounds as if they kept the vocals and rhythm section at full speed but accidentally slowed down the guitars to a wobbly warp in the mixing session. Celebrate the New Dark Age EP songs Halfway through this strangely entrancing song, one starts to feel relieved that this is merely a seven-song EP. Celebrate the New Dark Age EP album But as they always do, frontman Dave Brylawski and his bandmates balance out their fringier fits with comparative gentility, as "City Spirit" might be their most delicate (dare one say pretty) composition up to that point. Celebrate the New Dark Age EP CD music That is CELEBRATE's primary feat: staying true to their original instincts but finding a pathway to a tunefulness that moved Polvo away from their Carolina cohorts and up the coast toward contemporaries like Yo La Tengo. Recorded at Duck Kee Studios, Raleigh, North Carolina. Recording information: Duck Kee Studios. ...See Full Description

| best POLVO album ever all the albums are amazingly mind blowing, but this one takes the cake. i can listen to this album over and over. and i have. in fact i bought 2 copies of this record, just incase i wear the first one out. if your looking into starting to get into this band. i'd highly recommend this album. a close second would have to be the last album SHAPES. if you can make it thru those 2 albums. then i'd recommend the others. also be on the look out for the 7" ep's they've done that contain either bonus tracks, or different recordings. they also do a wicked cover of MEXICAN RADIO on the FREEDOM OF CHOICE sampler that Caroline put out back in the early 90's By satan_needs_fresh_underwear (centerville, ont., canada) This review is for a different format. |
