With their second album, II, Boyz II Men assured their place at the top of the charts, as well as history. "I'll Make Love to You," the album's first single, stayed on the top of the charts for over two months, only to be unseated by "On Bended Knee," the album's second single. Not surprisingly, II is a carefully constructed crowd pleaser, accentuating all of the finest moments from their hit debut. While there are some high-energy dance tracks, the album's main strength is its slower numbers, where the group's vocals soar. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Philadelphia's Boyz II Men are a vocal quartet steeped in a number of R&B and soul traditions. Not only do they have the sizable legacy of soul singers from the City of Brotherly Love to draw on for inspiration, they've also surpassed mentors Bell Biv Devoe as the premier Pop/R&B act in the land, filling the shoes of such dapper hit-makers as New Edition and The Jacksons. For II, their long-awaited sophomore effort, Boyz II Men (Shawn Stockman, Michael McCary, Nathan and Wanya Morris) rightfully abstained from fiddling with their distinctive vocal sound. Consequently, their harmonic interplay has never seemed more polished. Not only do they kindle soulful flames under pure romantic ballads like "I'll Make Love To You," but they are able to stake a claim to the Beatles' "Yesterday" by placing their own distinct vocal stamp on it.Entertainment Weekly (9/9/94, p.83) - "...No matter how noble the lyrics, the lush vocal and string arrangements suggest a deep-seated sensuality...the Boyz maintain their understated charm..." - Rating: A Q (11/94, p.109) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...Aspirations to stretch beyond sweetness are implicit in the hardline approach and ensemble passion..." Best of our time Boyz II Men is the best R&B group of our generation, and "II" is hands-down their best album. I listen to this CD straight through at least 3 times a week. Every song is awesome, no need to single out certain tracks. Submitted by Nick (Norman, OK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

The Best Boyz II Men are my favorite group of all time and this cd proves why they are great. I am currently on my 3rd copy of this album and it still sounds good in 2009 as it did in 1994 when it was released. From start to finish you can play it straight through. All of there albums are good but this is the best. Nate, Mike, Shawn & Wanya at their finest right here. Submitted by DJ BIGG Hank Daddy (Benton Harbor, MI, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Joe's second album, All That I Am, is an entertaining collection of contemporary soul that alternates between smooth ballads and hip-hop-inflected dance-pop. At his best, Joe can make this music irresistible; at his worst, he merely makes it entertaining. There are a few slow s

Greatest Hits is a strange release. Sure, Tupac Shakur had more than enough hits to make a terrific compilation, but its appearance in the fall of 1998 felt a bit like another opportunity to milk his catalog, simply because of the plethora of releases, from previously unheard recordings to interview discs and bootlegs. Even with these misgivings taken into account, it has to be said that Greatest Hits does its job well. Given that it runs 25 tracks and two CDs, some may argue that it does its job a little too well, but the fact of the matter is, this contains all of his big hits, from "Keep Ya Head Up" and "Dear Mama" to "California Love" and "I Ain't Mad at Cha." Some may argue that it would have been more effective ...

Personnel includes: B.G., Turk, Juvenile, Big Tymers, Hot Boys, Lil' Wayne, "Mac", Keisha (rap vocals). Personnel includes: B.G., Turk, Juvenile, Big Tymers, Hot Boys, Lil' Wayne (rap vocals). Along with Juvenile's 400 Degreez (1998), B.G.'s Chopper City in the Ghetto is among the best albums released by Cash Money Records during its heyday, and the inclusion of "Bling Bling" alone makes the album notable in the context of its time period. B.G. already had several albums to his credit by the time of Chopper City in the Ghetto, which was his first to be released in the wake of Cash Money's distribution deal with Universal Records, but this was the one to break him nationally, as both "Cash Money Is an Army" and "Bling Bling" became hits on urban radio and video television (particularly on BET). As is the case with all Cash Money releases of the era, Mannie Fresh produces all the tracks, and associate rappers Juvenile, Lil Wayne, Turk, and the Big Tymers are frequently featured. ~ Jason Birchmeier Besides the street-level gangsta clichés inherent in tracks like "Niggas N Trouble," "Play'n & Laugh'n" and "All on U," B.G.'s smooth flow and laidback raps make Chopper City a solid album, even packed in the middle of his hectic release schedule. The productions on highlights like "Uptown Thang: Wait'n on Your Picture" and "All on U" stick to midtempo G-funk, but are inventive and solid nevertheless. ~ Keith Farley One ...
| | Tony Elman Earth Tones CD (1995)
II
$13.15 Renowned hammered dulcimer player Tony Elman was first introduced to old-time fiddle music in 1974 at a festival in Santa Cruz, Ca. When he saw an elderly fiddler perform for the last time Tony realized that he wanted to be a part of this tradition. Shortly there after, he made a pilgrimage to Appalachia and built a hammered dulcimer that he still plays today.1982 Tony found himself at a friend's house in LA – with a studio in the guest bedroom – and recorded what became his first album, SHAKIN' DOWN THE ACORNS, a toe-tapping instrumental folk classic. Buoyed by it's success, he went on to record another collection of fiddle tunes, aptly titled SHAKIN' DOWN THE ACORNS, VOLUME II. Selling thousands of tapes at fairs and festivals all over the West, he founded Acorn ...
