Michael Jackson Thriller CD (1982) Top Seller
Song Review: A Greatest Hits Collection album for sale The finest example of perfect disco pop, and a record that should be prescribed to musical snobs and manic depressives. The album is a true ambassador of what pop music can be. Jackson whoops and dances through a suite of unforgettable melodies that should be danced to with a smile on your face. Each track offers at least one musical hook, whether it is the beauty of 'Human Nature' (who can resist the 'dada dada da da da') or the 'whoo whoo' of 'Billie Jean'. It's all too good.
Principally recorded at Westlake Audio, Los Angeles, California.

Elton John Greatest Hits 1970-2002 CDs (2002) Top Seller
Song Review: A Greatest Hits Collection songs Initial pressings of this first edition contain a bonus disc.
Recorded between 1970 & 2002. Includes liner notes by Paul Gambaccini.
Greatest Hits 1970-2002 is a nearly flawless double-disc set commemorating Elton John's three-decade career. Disc one features what may arguably be John's most essential work: Seeing songs such as "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," "Candle in the Wind," and "Bennie and the Jets" -- not to mention "Your Song," "Rocket Man," and "Tiny Dancer" -- lined up back to back reaffirms just how diverse, and yet universal, his songwriting talent is. Disc two finds this talent maturing gracefully into the '80s, '90s, and beyond, touching on pop gems like "Don't Go Breaking My Heart," "I'm Still Standing," and "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues" as well as his Lion King classic "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" and the Aida duet "Written in the Stars" with LeAnn Rimes. The collection also finds room for the highlights of his most recent albums, including Made in England's "Believe" and "Blessed," The Big Picture's "Something About the Way You Look Tonight," and Songs from the West Coast's "This Train Don't Stop Here Anymore." For most casual fans, Greatest Hits 1970-2002 will replace the need for collections such as Greatest Hits, Greatest Hits, Vol. 2, and Greatest Hits, Vol. 3, although these collections are still worthwhile as of-their-time retrospectives of John's work. ~ Heather Phares

George Michael Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael CDs (1998) Top Seller
Song Review: A Greatest Hits Collection buy CD music Though he made his initial mark on music history as half of the unctuous British duo Wham, George Michael wasted little time in proving himself more than just a pretty pop face. This comprehensive two-disc compilation documents the career of a man who was able to successfully meld pop, R&B and serious, introspective balladry without ever losing sight of the all-important groove and hook.
Thankfully, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN doesn't skimp on tracks from Michael's classic solo debut, and tracks like Bo Diddley beat-driven "Faith" and the lusty, Prince-like "I Want Your Sex" sound as fresh as ever. Later cuts show Michael's maturation as both a vocalist and songwriter, and collaborations with Elton John and bossa nova legend Astrud Gilberto serve to emphasize the wide stylistic range Michael is capable of traversing.

Aretha Franklin 30 Greatest Hits CDs (1985) Top Seller
Song Review: A Greatest Hits Collection songs The title may not be 100-percent accurate, since the songs here are culled from Franklin's soul years, roughly between 1967 and 1974, and she's had lots more hits since then. That nit picked, however, this is a genuine embarrassment of riches, with Aretha's soaring voice and under-appreciated piano decorating one wonderful genre-defining song ("Respect," "Chain of Fools," "Natural Woman," "Since You've Been Gone") after another. The most revelatory cut is probably "I Say a Little Prayer," in which Franklin imbues the song with a spine-tingling gospel flavor without ever losing the pop delicacy of the original Dionne Warwick version. But just about everything else here is essential listening.

Kenny Loggins Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow: The Greatest Hits CD (1997)
Song Review: A Greatest Hits Collection album for sale This retrospective album is a must-have for Kenny Loggins fans, providing highlights from his illustrious, twenty-year career. GREATEST HITS includes songs compiled from thirteen albums, including several film soundtracks and one forthcoming album, THE UNIMAGINABLE LIFE. From the heartfelt ballad "Whenever I Call You 'Friend,'" sung with Stevie Nicks, to the delightfully simple tribute to childhood and Winnie the Pooh, "House at Pooh Corner," nearly every song here is intensely familiar. Who could forget the '80s anthem "Footloose," or the light, funky "This is It," equally evocative of an earlier era? More recent recordings like "Conviction of the Heart" and "The Real Thing" embrace his deep involvement in the environmental movement and fatherhood, and are perhaps the most resonant and moving songs on the album.
