2009 two CD collection from the Soul superstars. Raised in Gary, Indiana, The Jackson 5 achieved enormous success once signed to the influential Motown label in 1969. They became one of the most successful acts of the '70s, crossing over from the Soul/R&B charts into the all-important Pop market. Though Jermaine was initially meant to be the focus of the Jackson 5, Michael's talents captured the hearts of the world with his voice, energy, charm and youth. Even though the band itself achieved great success, Michael ended up stealing the show and they groomed him for a solo career that would parallel and then eventually surpass that of his brothers. Features 36 tracks including 'I Want You Back', 'ABC', 'I'll Be There', 'The Love You Save', 'Maybe Tomorrow' and many others. Universal.

Digitally remastered by Jeff Willens (Universal Mastering Studios East). Liner Note Author: David Ritz. Editor: Harry Weinger. Arrangers: David Blumberg; Gene Marcellino; Gene Page; John Barber ; Mel Larson; Arthur Wright; David Van De Pitte; Bob West . Newly remastered and recompiled for 2000, this version of the Jackson 5's Anthology takes the place of the original double-CD set, which was first issued on LP back in 1976. The main difference is that where the first Anthology featured some of Michael and Jermaine's earliest solo hits, this one is devoted exclusively to Jackson 5 material, with a little more detail added to the pictures of their early pop-soul years and their later, disco-influenced work. All of the group's charting singles are here, as well as important B-sides and album tracks, including several songs that have never previously appeared on CD. Later hits like "Dancing Machine" and "Hum Along and Dance" are also presented in their full-length LP versions. ~ Steve Huey Unquestionably one of the dominant forces of pop music during the '70s and the first supergroup from the second phase of Berry Gordy's Motown heyday, the Jackson 5 amassed a back catalog that only an elite group of Gordy's artists could rival. Previously issued in 2000 under the title Anthology (which, incidentally was a remaster of 1976's greatest-hits compilation of the same name), this collection contains a complete survey of the group's most well-known hits right up to 1976, which is when the group later signed to Epic. There are B-sides, a few live cuts and original LP versions selected over the dance or radio originals. Most die-hard fans of the fellows will be challenged to find anything here they don't already have, but for casual fans looking for all of the hits and then some, this may be the only Jacksons greatest-hits CD you'll ever need in your collection. ~ Rob Theakston The Jackson 5 kicked off the '70s representing Motown's next generation by scoring a record-setting four consecutive Number One singles. In the process they also blew the doors open for future boy bands, including the Osmonds, New Edition, and millennial 800-pound gorillas Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync. The two-disc ANTHOLOGY is newly remastered and recompiled and includes all charting hits, important B-sides and a number of tracks previously unavailable on CD. Starting with the infectious bass, chicken scratch guitar, and chiming harmonies of "I Want You Back," "ABC," and "The Love You Save" it's not surprising how this bubble-gum manna seduced a whole nation. Fronted by 12-year old vocalist Michael, these Indiana siblings also found chart success with ballads ("I'll Be There," "Never Can Say Goodbye"). Other tracks point to the Jackson 5's extraordinary range covering Jackson Browne ("Doctor My Eyes") and Clyde McPhatter ("Little BiLiving Blues (11-12/01, p.80) - "...A fine place to begin appreciating the soulsters: its 36 tracks include all 20 of their 1969-75 R&B hits..." Photographer: Bob Levy. By the time of 1974's Al Green Explores Your Mind, this version of the Memphis sound was the production style for only a handful of artists. Producer Willie Mitchell used a lighter touch for his most famous artist, and it's all but crafted into the Al Green sound. Despite his skills, Green never falls into mannerism here and gives heartfelt and cogent vocals rooted in intelligence and technique. "Sha-La-La (Make Me Happy)," although lyrically slight, has the artist's charisma and Mitchell's pop chops. "Take Me to the River," with perfect backing from Hi Rhythm and a horn ...
